Poverty has many beneficial effects. Misers and low paying employers deserve FAR more praise than they receive.

Lots of tyrants try that method, they usually end up losing their heads. At least the doctor will only lose a patient.

Getting the money to pay that bill might actually drive him to drink.

This reminds me of a sign I saw in a car dealership back in the 70s. “The quickest way to get back on your feet is to miss a car payment.”

Clearly that doctor will use the payment to continue his smoking and drinking habits!

Ouch! This might work, if the diagnosis didn’t. Smoking and drinking are proven to become more medically expensive, as you age.

What makes you think you will get paid? Priorities are first.

I’m so glad I was raised in a home free of that stuff, never got into drugs, etc. There was a lot of peer pressure to do a lot of things that could do serious damage to your health in the 70s (and 60s when I was too young but impressionable), and even many “experts” in psychology and behavior thought that it was just normal and healthy for teens to rebel and do things like that.

Miss a few payments, and self-driving Teslas will drive themselves back to the dealer.
