I had the same thing happen to me. I saw the Falco version of “Der Kommissar” one night, and couldn’t get the song out of my head. I wished I could hear it again, even though I had already forgotten the title. Then the next morning MTV played the After the Fire version of “Der Kommissar”. Well, the tune seemed familiar, but the video was very different. It took a second to figure out that they were basically the same song.
I usually don’t remember the lyrics until I’ve heard then about five or six times. These days I can shorten the second stage; learning the real lyrics, by a quick search. Normally it could take months to years. Some, I still don’t know for sure.
I can sympathize with both of them. Sometimes that’s the best you can do, and sometimes you’re the one trying to figure out what song someone is trying to reproduce.

Even though this is a rerun, she might still be talking about a different song than whatever the first one was.

Are those ‘doots’ accompanied by grunting noises?

I like music, it’s the words I can do without.

There are no cool synth strings. Canonical oxymoron.

Was the song “Baby Shark” by any chance? (but lyrics altered to avoid copyright issues)
