So, what Hispanic-based seasonings would go well with turkey?

I once callously asked an Hispanic coworker if she stuffed her turkey with tamales. She was not amused

When I was young I remember there was a discussion on TV or such that just about everyone when asked replied that their Thanksgiving dinner was to be “turkey and all the fixings” which made it sound like all were eating the same foods for dinner.

When probed about the fixings in another survey it was discovered that there was a wide variety of foods being served as everyone’s “fixings” were different.

I grew up with side dishes such as “kasha vanishkas” – kasha (buckwheat groats) and bow tie pasta and some sort of “kugel” – generally potato (a baked dish of flavored mashed potatoes) as my family ( both sides) are European Jews. When I went to Thanksgiving dinner with my husband’s family we had instead a “macaroni” course and lovely Italian pastries for dessert.

In that original survey there was no discussion of what/which “fixings” were served and most families vary by what they have by their family backgrounds.
