As a Canadian, I have to laugh at the hubris of yet another American company that proudly proclaimed it was going to come to Canada and drive out the main competitor in its field, the donut business, which I’m sure you know is Tim Hortons. This upstart (K.K.) opened up it’s first store in Surrey, BC something like 20 years ago. To date, they have one in BC, one in Alberta, one in Manitoba and only 15 more in Ontario & Quebec.

Timmies has over 3,000 locations in Canada and over 5,700 world wide. It is Canada’s largest quick-service restaurant chain. I think we like their donuts better.

Peanuts in donuts? Okay. Well, I shouldn’t talk, my wife brought me a (no joke) chocolate fruitcake from Grandma’s Bakery in Beatrice Nebraska. She and her sister thought it was hilarious. I find it amazing and the way all fruitcake should be made. Yes I ate the whole thing (small one). Yes I dunked. Yes I want another one. So, yeah, donuts with peanuts must be good too.

Can’t take sides on this one. I eat way to much junk food, but for some reason donuts aren’t one of them. I’d like to keep it that way for just that reason, thank you very much :-)

I’m thinking “almost ruined”. They seem to be going down smoothly enough. :)

We live in a donut desert. There are two donut shops in town and both are slightly below average. They’re marginally better than the supermarket “bakery” donuts. There are 80,000 people here. We deserve better. The nearest acceptable donuts are a bit less than 30 minutes away.

When I worked at K.K. I didn’t eat a lot of them, but I liked to try the new seasonal ones.

We seem to have a donut shop on every corner, but mostly mom and pop shops I think. I prefer cinnamon rolls to donuts. The pastries (called by many names) with sausages inside are also popular with the family. With jalapeños and sometimes cheese because ? Texas…

There maybe a DD in town somewhere, but no KK donuts nearby – when they were all the craze, people would drive them up from Austin or someplace and sell as fundraisers. I prefer the mom and pop donuts / cinnamon rolls to any of the chains that I’ve tried, but don’t think I’ve tried Tim Horton or Burke’s.
