I help my friends write pageants for their church. a few years ago the idea was “jesus is for everyone’ but we wrote it as a chaotic crowded scene, line the cabin in ‘night of the opera’ with all sorts of ‘threes’ showing up. three shepherd, 3 wisemen 3kings, then we got silly, ’3 blind mice were said to be running around, off stage in the inn yard there were 3 Scottish witches etc, Joseph getting more frazzled-the kid playing him was great- finally losing it when you hear a loud thump- a big book dropped of stage- and he looks out the window to declare ’some weirdo in red just landed a sleigh on the roof!” -the play culminates with people looking at the baby and finding peace.
It tickles me, every time my wife puts up the manger scene. The only ones to visit the new born Savior, Yeshua, in the manger was the shepherds. The wise men visited Yeshua a couple of years later, while following the star that guided them.

Maybe they had nothing else to put him in. They didn’t invent baby carriages.

Yes. Every time I put up my manger scene, I wonder why there are no shepherds, or a whole herd of sheep, since that’s who’d be sheltering in a stable.

Zoroaster might have something to say about being first.

It may be a blessing, the animal shelter. The inn was crowded and noisy. In the stable it was probably warmer and private.

Yeah, except the Wise Men were never at the manger! They showed up way later.
