Hey you, yes you looking through the window, will you please help me by explaining to this airhead behind me the importance of turning around three times before taking a dump ?
It looks like she has a front-loader washing machine built into the wall behind her. I can’t remember the last time I saw one of those in a 17th century painting.
“My Dearest Brechtje…” (scratch scratch scratch) “…tho my passion for you is undimmed…” (scratch scratch) “…it pains me to write that I must withdraw from your…” (scratch scratch scratch) “…company…” (scratch) “…so long as you…” (scratch scratch) “…refuse to confront…” (scratch scratch scratch scratch scratch) “…your dog’s flea problem.” (scratch scratch scratch) “Love, Aldert.”

(note the period), and click its link for info and links that point to more info (perhaps best viewed using the Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox browsers, which can automatically translate most webpages if necessary) about this large painting.
Again, a larger strip image is shown by (Ctrl- or right-) clicking the image in Mr. Melcher’s MASTERPIECE #3429 (December 17, 2024) blog entry, accessible by the Check out the blog! box after the last comment, and using the dropdown menu (even larger if you crop what’s after .png from the URL). I’ve added a comment there pointing to the info about this artist I used to point to here. So far, first work by him used here.

Is it just me, or is that too much house for one person?

This is just the dog’s house. You should see the owner’s house.

/// This young Woman cannot be objective—
what she’s Reading is filled with invective.
In this Letter she’s cursed—
although he cheated first.
What she needs is a View with Perspective.

Like all artists, Van Hoogstraten’s bound/
By the laws of perspective. He’s found/
That the lines must converge/
If he hopes to emerge/
Unbitten by yonder hound.
He’s a hypercritical hound -/
a dog who has been around:/
A beast recondite/
Who has every right/
To be prominent in the foreground.

Next on “Stupid Pet Tricks”, Cindy and her spaniel Prinz Eugen will do forced perspective.

“You come one step closer to my mistress and I’ll make you wish you were never born. Yeah, van Hoogstraten, I’m talking to you!”

There’s an awful lot of detail in that painting…compared to Vermeer’s “The Letter”.

That’s either a very large breed of dog or a very small breed of human.
