When I attended parochial school, students had to have report cards returned with parent’s signature. When I entered public school in 9th grade, the report cards were computer printed and no parent signature was required.
Ah, parental motivation. I expected and demanded my kids get A’s or B’s and they get scholarships. I explained the difference between a job that gives you $80k to one that gives you less than $30k (this was over 40 years ago). They listened, all 4 are professionals and NOT living at my house.

Never get an A on the first test. They like when you show improvement.

Wallowing in one’s own mediocrity and laziness. How pathetic.

If you want to show improvement over time, you really should half-as the first round.
