Ahh, yes, I remember once going into the office on December 26th. The phone didn’t ring all day, there were no coworkers interrupting me, I took a long lunch break… I got so much work done!
I see John & Scott observe the traditional Boxing Day rite of boxing up your old to pass on. Thank you guys, for this slightly used but still excellent strip from 2014. ;-)
Don’t know how it works now. But for my first employer, Christmas was actually the only “off day” for salaried workers. Plant operators (wage roll) got “holiday” pay— but still had to keep the production units running. OTOH the day after Thanksgiving was a holiday for everyone.
As things typically worked out, Spring was our “big” season. So in the months leading up to it, maximizing production was the name of the game.
When I worked the AM shift I was at work at midnight Christmas night the 26th then it repeats on the New Year – hopefully I was not out partying and getting dr**k – thank God for coffee.
So why is Rita at work on December 26? I’m guessing that she is there for the same reason as Ed is (avoiding family) or it could be she is so dedicated to her job that she has no life outside of it. Sad either way, I think.
Before I retired, I always volunteered to come in on Black Friday. No one else was there and there were no phone calls from people giving me something to do. Paradise, I tell ya!

Think of the great nap he’ll have with no one to bother him.
