Always! No one’s around to witness brilliant performance. Just like a cop. Not one around when you need one, but go two miles over the speed limit, and one will be on the corner, and you’re hoping they didn’t notice you.
Know exactly how Mr. Dear feels, had a great shot at a time when I couldn’t find anyone with whom to play—no one to witness my all time best golf shot so I can’t brag about it because I have no proof ! ! ! !
With our residential group we once went playing ninepins. I wasn’t up for it, but had to drag along as one of the caretakers. It was my first time playing ever and I headed back to my chair the second the ball left my hand. When I was halfway back to my chair some bells, sounding like kind of an alarm to me, went off really loud. Immediately I thought I would have damaged something. But no: my very first shot in life and I knocked over all nine pins. And everybody saw it- exept me. Now, this was me kind of bragging ;-D
I don’t know the rules of golf. I assume you can go out by yourself, but it seems rare. When I see it depicted on TV or elsewhere, someone is always waiting for the rest of their foursome or whatever. It probably depends on the course, time of day, etc.

It’s a universal rule.

Well, Fred, you’re Mr. Dear’s best pal and you saw it so you know it wasn’t an idle boast and that’s what counts!

God’s revenge on those who skip church on Sunday. No witnesses to your good round of golf.
