If a 14-year-old dog with great reflexes is unusual, then I have a rarity here in my beagle. I had to teach her recently (old dogs can learn new tricks) that food dropped is no longer free food. She needs my OK. We had a free-for-all rush to grab something that isn’t good for dogs. I won, but not due to reflexes. I was LOUD with my NO and the accompanying hand signal. Now we are back to “leave it” status until I tap my toe near it.

I laughed at the dog’s mouth opening long after (in dog time) the food had already bounced off his/her nose.
