Yes, I remember those days before I retired. The boss had to go down the seniority list to get someone to work overtime. Otherwise the more senior people could file a grievance and get paid even though they didn’t stay.

I was rarely asked to work overtime. Apparently, I had an attitude.

When the phone would ring at shift change (every day) I would yell out my excuses. “I can’t work overtime because I just died of diphtheria!”
