Tonight, I will do my yearly routine out on my front porch: ring a big brass bell that was my mother’s, followed by the first four notes of “O Canada” at high volume, played on my Casio keyboard’s Synth-brass setting (sounds just like the air horns that play every noon hour on top of Canada Place in Vancouver) and then a chorus of Auld Lang Syne. I warned my new next-door neighbours that moved in this summer.
And my niece will be playing the same on her bagpipes over at her place.
