    balata – The nonelastic rubber obtained from the latex of the South American tree Manilkara bidentata. It was formerly used in the manufacture of golf-ball covers and machine belts.

    If you are a duffer/hacker like me, balata balls cut too easily. I haven’t used any since the 70’s. That’s probably when they were discontinued.
