The first time I read this I had to put the book down and walk away for a while. This is absolutely perfect. It breaks my heart every time. Anyone who has ever loved a dog knows this feeling. Thank you for having the courage to draw it and share it with us.
My beautiful little Maltipoo, Finnegan, died just a few days ago, on New Year’s Eve. He was eleven and a half years old. I had thought he would be with me for years to come.
That hits right in the feels. We have a clowder of 5 and a pack of 3. Four of all of them are over 8 years old. We give them the best food and exercise and vet appointments and shots and stuff, but sometimes you can’t do anything. I remember the first time one of my pets died. He was 18 years old and it should have been expected, but it still hit very hard.
Thanks for the love, everyone. Yes, this was a hard one to draw and tough to share as well. Even now, years later (Penny passed in February 2020) it still hurts. But better to have had her in our lives and lost her than to never have her at all.

That’s the way dogs love us, exactly.

Doggies are family. Broke my heart each and every time I lost one.

Not to belabor the obvious…but the day I lost my dog was – without compare – the worst day of my life. And that’s a lot of days.

and in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make.
