Captured wild animals need mental exercise. Zoo keepers will go to great lengths to keep them healthy. The exercise is mostly to not remind them that they are living in captivity.
Cats will chew up a box. Much like they would chew up a carcass. They might feel they are sitting in the lung cavity and are chewing on the rib cage. It keeps them mentally happy.
Dogs love to shake and chew on the toys… like they would kill and consume an animal in the wild.

Dogs, destroying their chew toys, is that natural order of things. However, using machines to do so is creepy. Bad dog!
