My kids make me old, just by them getting old, and now my grandkids are getting old too, making it worse.

From first through twelfth grade I wallked to school, because we just didn’t live that far away from any of the schools I went to. But I guess it wouldn’t be considered safe these days for the same routes. The only time I ever rode a school bus was for class trips and some weekend activities.

Walked everywhere in college, too, but that’s a bit different

As Indiana Jones said, “It’s not the years, honey, it’s the mileage.” And kids put a lot of mileage on their parents.

grew up in Providence RI and starting in 5th grade we had to walk 1.6 miles (one way – i googled it!) until 8th grade and then in high school we could take the city bus or walk and it was 3.7 miles – on nice days we walked home a lot because there was a public library about halfway, and that helped our studies (of course the high school had a great library too, but not as big) oh then in FL had bus to high school, and community college was just down the street, short walk…then to FSC had an hour drive (40 miles away) Wauchula to Lakeland

Walked to elementary school and middle school. High school I had to take a bus. University was a short walk. Med school not so much. Tried to find a place close to campus but ended up taking a bus.

I walked to school 20 miles uphill through a blizzarding tornado in 110 degree temperatures.
