Wordle is a web-based word game created and developed by Welsh software engineer Josh Wardle. Players have six attempts to guess a five-letter word, with feedback given for each guess in the form of coloured tiles indicating when letters match or occupy the correct position. Wordle has a single daily solution, with all players attempting to guess the same word. During 2023, Wordle was played 4.8 billion times.
I loved playing in the early days. BUT, then, for some reason the stats went away and I had to start over. Then, the stats went away AGAIN. Forget it, I’ll still to Kakuro and jigsaw puzzles.
We have been playing the word game for years on paper. Only we had 3 or more players and as many guesses until someone won. Wordell is my go to game when I get bored.
My friend and I play it every morning and text eachother with our results. She’s a better guesser than I am and gets it in fewer tries but I have surprised myself at times and git it in fewer tries than her. I also play Strands.
I post my results on Facebook and it is only a competition if you make it that way. If you get it in 2 it is a cause for celebration. I did get it once on the first guess and I was ecstatic! I also play Waffle and Squareword and I enjoy the mental exercise
“D F H I J K O Q V W X” Are the letters Janis didn’t use. IF none of the letters she used are in the Wordle word (highly unlikely) what five letter word can we make with these remaining letters?
Now let’s turn the question around and assume Janis got five letter correct, but in the wrong position. What are the possibilities?
If “A” is in the word it’s on the far end. “B C G P or S” can be in any but the first letter of the word. “E or N” can only be the first or second letter. “R T or Y” cannot be the last letter. —- Did I mention I enjoy useless mental exercises?
I do the NYT crossword and mini when they’re released at 10pm EST (6 on Sat and Sun). It helps me relax for bed.
And in the morning, I do Connections, Strands, Wordle on the NYT site. And Quordle and Octordle and tightrope and missing letter on the Miriam-Webster site. And Jewdle. And Queens on Linked-In. And Squareword, but I don’t know where I found that one.
I don’t care for the game but know enough that she shouldn’t have used letters in each word that had already been shown not to be in the word. (Wordle tells you if any letter you guess is in the word)
If Janis played the game correctly, as opposed to wishing for spring, then she might win. I play every day, and usually solve it in time, save one or two days a month. When my winning streak has to restart, it is very disheartening. There is a similar game called “Word Guess”, where you can play more than once a day, and test yourself on either five or six letter puzzles…….it is truly an addictive pursuit, but far from a trivial one.
I do Wordle and Spelling Bee every day…unless I forget, which annoys me to no end, as it erases my Wordle winning streak, doh! I really enjoyed reading all the other “mind games” that others do and plan on checking them all out. Thanks for sharing!

One of Janis’s choices was indeed the Wordle for 01/26/25 (I think that was the day). What a fun coincidence!

If she didn’t get a hit on any letter in BALMY, she should know not to keep repeating those letters in other guesses?

The dumbest wordle thing is the “advanced” mode, which is “try to be lucky” mode.

She may be terrible at Wordle, but she is a gardener, and completely focused on spring.
