    A square knot would keep him there until he croaked. A half-hitch might work for a while. He also forgot to go into a coil before he hit. Would have softened his landing. But maybe his head was soft enough.

    In the frame where he’s tying himself to a tree, it looks like a clove hitch, not a slip knot.

    He shouldn’t have fallen. The slip knot he tied would pull tighter when pulling on the standing line (His body). You would have to pull on the tag end (his tail) to get it to untie.
