A bit off-topic: The foolish things people reveal on job applications! I remember one guy who prominently displayed on his resume that he was the head union steward at his previous job that had had a long, contentious strike — without realizing that our company had always been strongly anti-union.
It is a long time since I’ve seen someone smoke at an interview. (BTW: if you are doing a video interview, don’t smoke even if it is your house. For the duration of the video, it’s also their office).
I live in an area that is headquarters to several major tobacco companies. I have some scruples about working for them or gun manufactures (another headquarters in my area).
The other reason I didn’t apply to the tobacco companies is that they had no smoke-free areas anywhere on their campus. I like living too much to go to work in such an environment. A coal mine might be safer.
I don’t know if this literally toxic work environment still exists.
