I can’t remember who it was but I remember a comedian tackling the edited version of the book that changed Jim’s moniker to “slave” instead of (slur).

They pointed out that’s actually worse. That implies you’re always a slave as a black man.

Has some major flaws, like parachuting Tom Sawyer in near what should have been the end, but Ernest Hemingway called it the first truly American novel.

Dogs driving cars is better than a dog party.

I would nominate “Les Misérables” by Victor Hugo.

Just because something is outdated doesn’t mean it isn’t good. You don’t have to be timeless to still hold up.

Go Dog, Go! Written by P.D. Eastman. His screenplay for the 1950 movie Gerald McBoing-boing earned an academy award.

He also wrote Sam and the Firefly.

“Do you like my hat?” Is all I can remember from the dog and cars book.

My favorite “book” growing up was my third-grade “reader” called “Engine Whistles” – I loved that story, the characters, the plot, the milieu…

I was given the opportunity to reread it in my thirties and it had totally changed – it was simplistic, boring and altogether disappointing…

I am very careful when I revisit “favorite” anything now… the authors who have survived are vanishingly small – Sam Clemens, Harper Lee, Issac Asimov, Keith Laumer, Jean Shepherd…

When my kids were … kids … I could recite most of “Go, Dog, Go!” from memory.
