I thought the Four Horsemen were Ric Flair,Arn Anderson,Barry Windham and Tully Blanchard(among many other incarnations)? Lio wants to be their mgr./valet?
psychlyst, the original four wer ric, arn, tully, and Ole anderson. Barry came after ole. But following your lead that would make Lio be James J. Dillon
“Conquest” is sometimes translated as “Pestilence”, and is considered equally valid by most scholars. However, remember that most of this is translated from the ancient Greek, so some think Death rides a “pale” horse and others say a “green” horse. Also remember these were people who knew absolutely nothing of science and thought someone with epilepsy was possessed by demons. I think it’s interesting, but hardly believable. I am constantly amazed at the modern-day people who firmly believe that 2000 year old primitive-minded societies were fully knowledgeable of the secrets of life and death (And Mark, War is a RED horse, and a great SWORD, not a spear)
“I am constantly amazed at the modern-day people who firmly believe that 2000 year old primitive-minded societies were fully knowledgeable of the secrets of life and death”
I am often amazed at modern-day people who think we’re more advanced than the ancients, who accomplished things we still can’t explain - e.g., the pyramids, mounds in the Western Hemisphere.
And I think Lio’s horse could be a little more intimidating.
Things must be really tough if Death needs to pick up a little walkin’ around money by doing some kid-care. Or maybe its the new Pre-School of the Apocalypse.

By the way, Ushindi and Ji2m, it’s critical thinking (i.e. logical and rational thought free of bias or emotion) only if unbiased and supported with logical thought– it seems a small bit biased to me (correct me if wrong).
By the way, you said ‘these people knew absolutely nothing of science’ (I assume you mean the writers of the Bible).
Actually, the Bible contains quite a lot of science, including
A) the idea that the earth is suspended in space (while similar religions of the time believed it was held on the back of a giant turtle or supported on the shoulders of a demigod)– see Job 26:7
B) the idea that the earth is round, not flat (Proverbs 8:27, Isaiah 40:22)
C) descriptions of dinosaurs (creatures of whom fossils were not officially discovered until 1824)– see Job 40:15-40:1
D) the idea that there are many stars in ‘the heavens’, and that each star is unique (Genesis 22:17, Jeremiah 33:22, 1 Corinthians 15:31)
E) the circulation of the atmosphere, a complex idea not introduced until 1735 (Ecclesiastes 1:6)
F) rudimentary principles of fluid dynamics, most notably the fact that air has weight, an idea which was only proven about 300 years ago (Job 28:25)
G) simple descriptions of the hydrological cycle, as well as descriptions of water recirculation and condensation (Psalm 135:7, Jeremiah 10:13, Job 36:27-29, Ecclesiastes 1:7, Isaiah 55:10, Job 26:8, Job 37:11)
… among others.
Remember, it takes only one contrary example to upset a generalization. Don’t dismiss the Bible as ‘unscientific’ simply because you
a) don’t agree with it’s views
b) were unaware of these facts
c) both of the above
How much do you know of all there is to know? How much do I know of all there is to know? Put together, less than 1% of all there is to know. In that greater-than-99% of what we do not know, is it not possible there is a God?
Wow, I am impressed at how utterly the colorist fails–they obviously know nothing about the Four Horsemen. They didn’t even make War be red, which is the one people seem to be able to manage the most.
The horses ought to be (from left to right)
Pestilence / Conquest - white
War - red (he seems to have gotten the pale horse, which most people forget about, so that’s… something?)
Famine - black
and Death on the aforementioned pale (greenish!) horse.
Don’t ask me what color Lio’s horsie ought to be–“brown and magenta” probably suits him fine.
No, dont is posible a God there, God don’t exist. But people still believing in it just for tradition. Your example about “bible science” is wrong. This “science” that you tell, is just a interpretation about isolated and marginal quotes. The science is a compendium of experimentation and observation, nature dont need a God. Universe, neither.
Hey Mark,
great cartoon! I’ve got a CD tip for you, and for everyone here of course: the apocalypse oratiorio “Buch mit sieben Siegeln” by Austrian composer Franz Schmidt, with extended features of the four horsemen!
Relax, people. You can worship the Great Two-Headed Snake God if you want - and I don’t have to if I don’t want. Just don’t expect me to accept whichever particular God or religion you have picked, out of the many hundreds available, as the one true whatever. Nobody really KNOWS - belief is NOT the same as knowing. Personally, I think the Snake God is just as feasible as all the rest.

In Revelation, the Four Horsemen are Conquest, War, Famine and Death. It looks like that is the lineup here.
Personally, I always attributed them to my sons. :)
