When I was a kid, we didnât have none oâ yer fancy fireworks to throw at fish. All we had was harsh language.

âFecklessâ, a word you rarely see, also appears today in Dilbert, go figureâŠ.

Love this!

I think the guyâs left leg would more likely be missing instead of the right leg! How did the fish get the left eye and arm, and face, but the right leg?

Such a nice boy visiting the old folks. So respectfulâŠ
Rakkav over 15 years ago
Brilliant idea! And since heâs an old toon (assuming itâs not just a fish tale), who needs any explanation as to how he got some wounds but not others? :))
This Sundayâs working out pretty good for the Cartoon Physics collection! :D

Does anyone know if this comic was completely made up, or if there really was a âFeckless Freddie Frecklesâ back in 1915?

How old would Dondi and Queeny be by now?
Ushindi over 15 years ago
Since they havenât been mentioned yet, let me raise a glass to âJiggs and Maggieâ (actually âBringing Up Fatherâ), âOur Boarding Houseâ (with the Major and Martha), âOut Our WayââŠ
(Almost forgot to mention - GREAT Lio today!)

I Googled âFeckless freddy frecklesâ and the only direct hit was Sherlock Watsonâs question (above.) The old comic sure looks genuine, though!

Is Gertie about to come by still searching for Walt Wallet?
RogerWilco over 15 years ago
It had me wondering as well - no such comic BUT James Swinnerton did a comic named âJimmyâ which is virtually identical in appearance to our hero Freddie. Mark aped Swinnertonâs âJimmyâ is my conclusion. Coincidentally, the copy of âJimmyâ I have in my copy of âThe Smithsonian Collection of Newspaper Comicsâ was also from 1915.

By far, the coolest installment of the Lio strip ever, bar none. Even better than the one a couple of years ago in which Charlie Brown paid Lio to rig the football. A classic! Would love to see more like this.
aardvarkseyes over 15 years ago
Perfect, right down to the copyright line in the first panel. Absolutely brilliant.
jnik23260 over 15 years ago
âFeckless Freddieâ is completely lifted from âLittle Jimmyâ. And those wounds could be from other adventures!
comicsnoob over 15 years ago
Mark you should also be working at the Cartoon Network! Or do a Christams Special with Lio!
