Hm, how many of the Four Junk Food Groups are _in_ that stuff? Let’s see: Sugar, Cocoa…add Fat and Salt and you’ll have a “balanced” breakfast, all right.
OK, how about a side of hash browns, heavy on the Morton’s?
My wife embarrassed me in the market by pushing me by the Reese’s Peanut Butter cereal and straight to the bran flakes. Why should I eat bran flakes? Psst psst. Oh!
My husband has diabetes, diagnosed last July. He gets the shakes like that once in a while when his blood sugar drops too low and it scares the living bleeep out of me! I have to get a little sugar into him FAST and that’s not easy when he’s shaking so violently! Naturally it usually happens between 2 and 4 in the morning and not at a more respectable hour when I have my witts about me. That would be too easy!
I love how Calvin is saying it’s Hobbes shaking when it’s really him on that sugar high.
@Wayfarer: LOL I know exactly what you mean… “Vitamin M” comes from the daily grind in the rat race. Unfortunately side effects include stress, burnout, and higher taxes :-D
Love that last panel. On occasion I will eat honey nut cheerios. I little bit of a sugar buzz, but not as much as some of those other cereals. I can’t believe I used to add more sugar when I was a kid.
cymbol give him some cracker’s and peanut butter before bed. Crashing like that in the middle of the night, or anytime really, is bad. The crackers are a more complex starch and release slowly during the night, and there is protein in peanut butter. Recent studies show protein help stabilize the absorption and release of blood glucose.
anybody remember those cool frogmen(powered by baking soda) you sent away to battle creek ,michigan for?

Of course, everone knows that a wholesome breakfast includes: 2 eggs, bacon, wheat toast, orange juice, milk and a bowl of Chocolate Frosted Sugar Bombs.
Kerovan -
How “recent” is “recent”?
“Recent studies show protein help stabilize the absorption and release of blood glucose.”
I read a book on ADHD children back when my son was younger. He’s not quite in that category, but close enough to learn some helpful hints in that book. One hint was basically what you’ve stated. He could handle chocolate milk, chocolate milkshakes, and even chocolate ice cream, but heaven help us, if he ate a brownie! Thankfully, as he matured, the effects have become manageable, so he can eat brownies now.
I realize that many of these comments are said in jest, but…
Sugar naturally present in fruits and vegetables is good.
Salt is needed in small amounts. Most added salt is excessive.
Poly-unsaturated and mono-unsaturated fats are good.
Starches which are digested slowly are beneficial.
Caffeine is difficult to avoid altogether; a small amount is probably okay.
Obviously, the aforementioned comments are brief and basic.
‘All things in moderation’, or ‘moderation in all things’, as the saying goes..
I’m not trying to ‘throw a wet blanket’ on your fun.
“Shake, rattle and roll”
I love this whole series of comics with the Beanie, lol.

My apology to all the workers at Taco Bell ..I was unthinking and mis-spoke, your food is both nutritious and healthy as has been proved by thousands of Government studies.
We all know its the health food industry thats causing the explosion of obesity in this country and we hope that at some point those crazed salad munchers will stop by the late night drive thru and pick up a dripping sack of goodness for their poor deprived children
again I apologize and hope all you good folks will continue to make the food that keeps Americas medical system working !
Taco bell 99 cent menu.. change you can belive in !
One of my University Professors called it Taco Smell! At that point though, there was no Taco Smell in Canada. I went on my next trip down to the States and would have to agree with him. I haven’t been there since and I’ve been living in the States for the past 8 years.
I remember going on my First foreign trip
I was excited to be in another country seeing new thing , having exciting experiences
as the taxi was leaving the airport we passed a large sign advertising Pizza Hut and taco bell I later found this same small African village had an A&W root-beer place too
Sigh .. travel has just never been the same since.
Calvin should simply give the sugar bombs to the dog and save the boxes. He would have the fun of watching the dog go screaming around the house for a few hours. His mother would wonder what was going on, of course, but without a clue. The expression on her face, when she finds out would, no doubt, be priceless….
Rachel7 said: I think that Chocolate Frosted Sugar Bombs are really just the comic strip version of Cocoa Puffs.
Maybe it’s just me but who isn’t maybe just a little bit “Coo-coo for Cocoa Puffs”???!!!
I may be an adult but every now and then, I like to take a break on the weekends from my perpetual Slim Fast diet and have something else for a change. When I do, I still love the taste of chocolate cereal/milk, just like I did when I was a kid!
Here’s something to ruin your travel, gillbillvolume1: a Starbucks Coffee across the street from the entrance to the British Museum in London.
Yes, I went there. No, I was more amused than anything else. Yes, I longed for my daily Mocha Frappuchino (chilled). Yes, I was asked if the prices were the same there as here. In fact they were (as far as I could tell), except that the prices were in pounds rather than in dollars (therefore twice as costly, more or less).
Hey! They taste GOOD, right? We are just following our natural instinct for survival by eating as much high energy food as we can left over from our hunter gatherer days. ( I won’t say caveman days out of respect cause I don’t know if Adam and Eve lived in caves or carried clubs).
By the way Grog, Bud goes at the top of the list.
To those who keep wondering out loud - Chocolate Frosted Sugar Bombs are just Calvin’s own brand of kid cereal that takes on all qualities of kid cereal worth eating as a kid. And he still scoops extra sugar on them, like a true kid! We who know the strip say we ate them, but that just means we ate our equivalent of what Calvin has.
They ruined all of the kid cereal, and years ago, they made them change any name that included sugar in it to something else, Like Sugar Smacks became… who cares, I never ate them again, because they also cut all the sugar content in all the cereals.
Thanx for clearing up the authenticity of CFSBs MrsLuke – I was never sure if they were really real. You guys are forgetting potato chips in you r basic food groups!! Actually I used to get my rush from the first puff on a cigarette for the day. Then I gave it up.
Rmom I’ve been diagnosed as a type II D iabetic for about 18 years now. At that time I went through all the Diabetes Education and nutritionist counseling offered. The wisdom was you had 75 grams of carbs at each meal +/- 7 grams etc. Over the years I got worse and about 2 years ago I went to an Endocrinologist, specialist in disorders including Diabetes. She told me that “We now know we don’t need as many carbs as we originally thought.”
I’ve had to go through Diabetes education and counseling all over again. For the last 2 years I’ve been told this is the latest information on maintaining diabetes control - 45 grams of carbs per meal and at least half that in protein sincxe it will “stabilize” the blood sugar. As near as I can tell this protein MUST be peanut butter because no matter what type of protein I tell them I use they will inevitably say one of 2 things- 1)Can you substitute peanut butter? 2) Can you add peanut butter to that? [unfortunately I’m not joking. They give me those same 2 comments every time. Peanut butter must be the holy grail of diabetes control.]
Typically only those of us who use insulin need a late night snack before bedtime, but if you are crashing in the middle of the night it’s a good idea. Whole wheat or other complex carbs break down slower in your body. That concept hasn’t changed in 18 years.
That would be bad news for me Kerovan, I love nuts - particularly cashews, hazel nuts and pistachio nuts - but peanut butter will never touch these sweet lips. Can’t stand the stuff.
Funny how Calvin only questions “authority” when he disagrees with it, like when he has to go to school. If it tells him Sugar Bombs are nutritious, though, of course he questions nothing!
