I have a question that pertains to the Calvin And Hobbes comic strip:

If Spaceman Spiff and Stupendous Man were to compete against each other in a game of Calvinball, who do you think would win.

I’m going to choose to believe that someone must be new here and just didn’t realize how close some are. Maybe they thought Grog was a ‘masher’? I wouldn’t want to run someone off over a misunderstanding.

Woodeye: At one of our Class Reunions two of the girls in our class spent the whole time whispering in each other’s ear, even when they were sitting at a group full of people. I wasn’t the only one that noticed and was ticked off by the display.

They were up to Psalm 144 Saturday, but I missed it. I just previewed 145 for next week and, (there are no coincidences) there is an issue in common with 115. I find the idea of me blessing Him interesting.

Guess Calvin wants something to do, since he’s now got no TV.

Now I know why I’m on the government watch lists. I’m always up to something. Makes for a much richer life, though I can move on someday with a clear conscience.

This does seem the case with Roswell and Area 51.

LADYWOLF At first thought I would agree with JANCIN*.. However, on deeper thought (I know, a first for me) it occurs to me that Hobbes would never play on anyone’s team. If Calvin was the referee (yeah right) and Hobbes was a spectator, I predict the ball would disappear and Hobbes would have an innocent smile on his face. I don’t think I would join a club that would have someone like me as a member.

@Johanan Rakkav, I don’t think everything has to be relevant to the strip all the time, but since you asked, and although there are many relevancies in Psalm 115, I’ll just offer one hoping not to offend a few people who don’t appreciate comments from the Bible. “Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto YOUR name give glory, for your mercy, and for your truth’s sake.” - vs. 1 Calvin wants the glory that comes with attention (whether positive or negative). BTW, your reference to Deuteronomy 29:29 is excellent. I’ve used it myself in other contexts. It’s a great verse.

G.R.O.S.S., but don’t over do it by calling any of the girls nasty and hideous with horrible acne scars with puffed up crater white heads. They may seek you out at 1 am in a public restaurant, with way too much make up on to prove you wrong.!!

I started a club once. It was very a very excludive one. In fact it was so exclusice that I was the only member!

i still don’t see why or how bible quotes are relevant or needed on a comics forum, and especially in c&h. imo there are better and less intrusive ways to proselytize.

I once worked at a place that asked to help out with other peoples emails. Saw some chain email bible quotes. Looked at who was copied on the email.

Had to laugh, some of those people could have a stack of bibles fall on them and looking at the way they behaved most of the time,, there behavior was so far removed from the quotes.

It was quite a chasm from the bible quotes that were in the emails. .

@billdi, Some people, including me, enjoy the bible quotes and comments, and they are more needed than many of the inane, meaningless, and trivial posts that I see here day after day ad nauseum. I believe the Bible is revelant to every aspect of life and more relevent in C&H than in numerous other “comics”. However, I’m not telling anyone what to post as long as it’s not vulgar, profane or otherwise inappropriate. Say what you like; I usually read almost everything whether I particularly like it or not. I might miss an occasional nugget if I don’t read all. :o)

No one is proselytizing. It is a discussion among like minds. Puddleglum2 was following up on a previous discussion we had. One that was more relevant to the strip at the time. Relax, no one is trying to convert anyone.

@billdi (again), BTW, nobody is perfect, including Christians. Why don’t you people who like to find fault with believers become believers yourselves and show us how it’s done, or show us even without becoming believers? Although Christians have faults as do others, I’ve observed that they are (sometimes much) better than they were before as non-christians, and it is so by the power of the Holy Spirit who dwells in us. “Be followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. I Corinthians 11:1 In other words, follow me to the extent that I follow Christ. He is the perfect example. P.S. Not all who claim to be Christians really are. They give true Christianity a bad name.

I would think that, with Calvin, nobody needs a reason to keep a close eye on him…

Me personally, I would bet on Stupendous Man just because I don’t have a whole lot of faith in those fancy gizmos that Spaceman Spiff tries to use all the time ( and finds out of order). I am a great fan of technology, believe me, but I also like comic books and Superman could kick Flash Gordon’s derriere anytime. So I assume that it would be the same with Calvin. Unless there is some strange kryptonite type substance that can affect Stupendous Man!

I’d like people to refrain from religious and political comments. I love to read reactions to the Calvin & Hobbes situations. I know that religion and politics are important, but in this innocent place, let’s stick to comments about our little “hero’.

I find it extremely interesting to read the comments saying religion has no place, especially in C&H, when the name itself comes from a religious debate between John Calvin, noted theologian, and John Hobbes, materialist philosopher. Many of the scenarios are based on the dichotomy between the natural and supernatural realm. As long as it’s not heavy handed and irrelevant, I welcome it. To divorce the commenter from their worldview is nonsensical.

And I can’t recall a ‘believer’ ever telling ‘non-believer’ that they shouldn’t post their opinions. Only that they are wrong. (Which is just another opinion).
