thebird55, I thought of using ā€˜matureā€™ for perfect, but the Hebrew word in the OT seemed a bit different from the NT word. Itā€™s close, though. I wouldnā€™t find fault with it, but my emphasis was on the failure of King Asa in this instance. In general, Asa was a good king, but near the end of his life, he failed miserably and showed little or no maturity. You, some others, and I could have significant discussion in a Bible class on this subject, but we will show restraint here.

BTW, I still regularly look back to the previous dayā€™s comments to see what I missed while I was gone.

My children grew up deprived - we have a front loader, so while they can see the laundry, thereā€™s no agitation going on. Sigh.

ā€œEach to his/her ownā€ ā€¦.Someone great at sometime or another had said that. ā€¦.As I get older, I am starting to figure out that each and everyone of us has their own beliefs about each and everything. I have my own opinion,as do each of you. If I donā€™t like your ā€˜s, I simply move on. I may make a comment , but I donā€™t think less of someone just because I donā€™t agree with them. Example: I agree with ā€œDivine Interventionā€. I donā€™t agree with what someone said on here a few days ago about we (MANKIND)being a ā€œfreak of natureā€ Now I donā€™t think that the person who said that is the ā€œfreak of natureā€ ā€¦.Or do I??? It just may be that I still have some growing left to do ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦On a lighter note : I wonder if Calvin will put Hobbes in the dryer on Fluff. Think Hobbes will shrink ??? Nothing worse than the smell of wet Tiger..!

Being a relatively new Calvin & Hobbes fan, I have not seen most of the strips. I am interested to know the outcome of this one. Will Hobbes fur be normal after his soak?

You see, I had a stuffed tiger when I was 6. It was my most favorite possession. One day my mother made a comment that it was dirty and needed to be thrown out. I overheard this and was quite upset. So I gave my beloved a bath with a wash cloth and soap. Needless to say the fur was ruined and he looked awful. I was heartbroken. Soon after that my pet disappeared never to return, though I looked and pleaded in vainā€¦.

Perhaps that is why I took so long to warm up to Calvin and Hobbes. The snowman figures brought me round, though ā€¦ I received a couple in an email, and was instantly a fanā€¦

@fsrstarr, thatā€™s a sad story. My sister was luckier: her orange-brown bear (ā€œPumpkinā€/ā€Punkeyā€) eventually went through three (I think) whole sets of new skin, plus more partialsā€¦

I carefully wash (and sew when needed) all of my little oneā€™s most favorite and beloved toys to make them last as long as possible because itā€™s next to impossible to find a duplicate replacement ā€¦ and I just canā€™t bear for her little heart to be broken whenever toys no longer salvageable have to be thrown away.

    :-(

Why do they never tell parents not to give their babies cuddlies which canā€™t be machine washed and tumble dried? Test it before they get attached!

I was also not informed before the event that itā€™s impossible to read the Velveteen Rabbit aloud to a child without choking up and needing a handkerchief.

@bmonk: I have not read ā€œVelveteen Rabbitā€, but I will do so. Thanks for t he tip. I am glad your sister and ā€œPunkeyā€ were more fortunate.

I seldom have time to comment, however, I do enjoy all of yours, and visiting this page is a quiet respite that I enjoy. I am glad I found it.

keltii, We all sympathize with you immensely! Did you have to eat conch at almost every meal? Could you see the Dominican Republic from where you were? Big Papi is in Boston playing baseball, and Manny is being Manny. I think he just came off the DL with the Dodgers. If your home is in the British Isles, you might not even be familiar with my baseball comments. That wouldnā€™t be cricket!

The Tiger might have a different opinion of the experience after the machine hits spin dry. Making stuffed toys that would put up with being put in a washing machine would be an instant hit with untold numbers of parents. With all the technology/knowledge/experience at our disposal, why hasnā€™t someone come up with this?

Glad to see there are so many good moms here ā€“ my mom put my favorite fur cat in the furnace (we had an old coal furnace) and tried to convince me that the new plush one was ā€œbetter??ā€ No way!! ā€“ She had to go and find another fur one just to live with me.
