Standing still and screaming bloody murder would be just as entertaining to Hobbes… which is usually how he catches Calvin anyway.

So both Calvin and Hobbes have something in common with their food choices. Don’t suppose Calvin would be very interested in a bowl of ice cream.

Some years ago, Reader’s Digest reprinted an article called “How to Eat an Ice Cream Cone” (from the book, if memory serves, How to Do Things Right). It’s just as entertaining as Calvin’s way and a whole lot neater, more efficient and more polite.

Not (as the nifty artwork with the article confirmed) that this means anything to a six-year-old… :)

BUT… I’ve never eaten an ice cream cone any other way since.

Last night my Maple Walnut cone dripping on the clean sterile hospital floor provided better medicine for my friend in bed than any medication or preparation the doctors had. Wonder if they’ll search me tonight?

Our ice cream shop puts a square of chocolate in the waffle cone’s inside bottom so it doesn’t get soggy and drip. It’s the big county fair day today so we’ll be going past it, “Yipee!”

Although the worst I ever had was great, the important question about ice cream is what flavor do you favor. Here’s one vote for Blue Bell’s Banana Split.

Calvin, you put nutrition before entertainment! I had thought that nutrition was near the bottom of your concerns.

“That’s why we tigers like our food surprised and running.” What does that have to do with nutrition, Hobbes? …except for you after/if you catch and eat it. Have you ever seen a tuna surprised and running? Do you prey/pray for it? That would be a mackerel, er, I mean miracle. I was really fishing for a pun with that one! “…surprised and running.” Are we back to eggs again? Isn’t that eggscessive?

I like Moose tracks too, LeslieAnne! We have something (more) in common. I add my own bananas, sandfan, …and nuts, peanuts, raisins, whole-grain cereal, etc. I don’t often eat cones, especially Calvin’s way. It’s way too sloppy for me.

I get ‘edgy’ with Calvin’s perpetual ‘preachiness’, and it’s self-serving, to boot, although “Once in a While” I get a kick out of it. “I Get a Kick out of You”. The ‘preachiness of any stripe’ belongs to Hobbes, not to mention zebras, skunks, ‘mangy’ polecats, etc.. Clean and wholesome rocks!

Well Calvin, eating icecream from the bottom of the cone is very creative. But i think eating it from the top of the cone is boring. From the bottom you can do anything. You could hold the cone up higher so it’s like a fountain of icecream coming in to your mouth. Or tilt the icecream cone so it’s like a “icecreamfall” into your mouth. Theres endless idea’s to create.

My OCD side might have to keep the egg yolks ‘running’. :o) If there’s a ban on eggs, there will be poachers! I hope eggs will remain eggstant. Calvin needs them for their nutritional benefit. Dodo eggs are eggstinct, however …or are they? When I see one, will I have to ‘hatchet’? ‘Henny’ Youngman: “Take my wife, …please! There’s brevity for you, Johanan!

@Lewreader. Maple walnut is my favorite but I have to drive three and a half days to get some. Evidently Blue Belle and Blue Bunny don’t think it would go over in OK. I have made my own, though. And while I have your attention: Your avatar looks like a gorilla head and face to me. Always startles me. Can you pose your big cat in some other direction? Anyone else see what I see?

I do have to make an eggception. I think the yolks about our little easter decorations are eggagerated and I am a-Fried that we a-poached the limit of puns. I might have hard-boiled some of You, and for that I ask that you eggscuse me. If not, I appreciate you sunny-side-up chocie and affer a toast, thank you, and don’t forget to tip

Hey Calvin, I thought I had the patent on nibbling the hole in the tip back in 1959! And I thought it was far neater than licking drips all around the rim, only to end up with bites of exploding soup at the end. Took me a long time to finish a cone, though.

You can’t suck Maple Walnut out of a hole in the bottom tip, but so what - it’s so tasty I don’t mind skipping the technique to get the flavor. I feel sorry for you in Oklahoma - here in the Northeast people get real serious about their maple, and if Maple Walnut weren’t widely available there’d be a revolt, or worse.

Being a vegetarian, I’m not so fond of this solution for dripping ice cream cones, but I pass it on for the rest of you: place a miniature marshmallow in the bottom of the cone before scooping in the ice cream. Even Martha Stewart approves…
