Boy: Mom, parents aren't cool to be seen with, so will you drop me off around the corner from school? Boy: Um...what are you doing? Woman: I think it might be safer if you walked to school and I sit in the kitchen and drink coffee. I'm sure nobody can see me from here.

And you can bet this kid will be living in your basement throughout his 20’s. That’ll be cool.

Once they reach a certain age, if the school is within walking distance, they’re walking. If the school bus stops within walking distance, they’re taking the bus. If none of the above are an option there’s still bicycles and mopeds.

You wouldn’t believe how many parents drop their kids off at school these days! Employees can’t even get into the lot nor can they get to a parking spot. Whatever happened to riding the bus? I wish more parents were like this one. We are raising a nation of wimps.

Why can’t they be like we were, perfect in every way? What’s the matter with kids today?

There’s a quote somewhere from an adult complaining about “today’s youth”; the boys are lazy, ignorant, and violent, the girls are immodest and slutty, and they’re ALL spoiled and disrespectful. They’re nothing like the decent upright youths of past generations, and surely our culture is headed for disaster (I’m paraphrasing, of course). The quote is from some Greek writer in 500 BC or thereabouts.
Can anyone help pin that down for me? I often think it would be useful to trot out.

Town I grew up in, the elementary, Junior High, and HS, were all side-by-side, and well within walking distance. I was in HS before I ever saw the inside of the big yellow thing, for a field trip.

Except for two years of junior high (when I bussed), I walked to school K through 12 unless I was late and it wasn’t my fault; and while I’m not exactly well-adjusted, I don’t have any problems that can be traced back to my parents refusing to teach me a sense of entitlement.
