I worked with a teacher who failed student teaching. Sad days, sad days. She was so clueless. Some colleges should not exist. She protested so much about the failing grade that the school let her slide!
You need a degree (usually) to be hired, full-time. As a college student majoring in Elementary Education, you do intern work. She could easily be a college student.
As a side note, most El Ed majors are in the bottom 25% of their class…
In the mid 70s, a friend of mine joined her husband In San Antonio, Texas where he was stationed. She had just got her Masters Degree. This qualified her to teach elementary school, k-08. When she got to Texas, she found she was way over qualified. At the time high school diploma was more than enough. Don’t know if it still is.
When my niece was a senior in high school (2 years ago), she spent part of her senior year student teaching in local elementary schools (upstate NY). She is now in college working on her degree.
nboady, are you sure she wasn’t a teacher’s assistant? That doesn’t require a degree or participation in an education program. I live in New York, and they’re generally pretty picky about their teachers.
Expect the best… pay the worst… require the most! That’s the life of a teacher! You have to love what you do if you expect to last very long…
they should do a Survivor show in a middle school where all the contestants are placed in the position of teachers! Nobody would win… ☺

OK, my original opinion was wrong - she’s a ditz.
