Yep, sadly it does happen this way… this is what gmartin997 and I where talking about back on 2/14… not so much for religion but this over sensitive hot button “it might offend someone who really doesn’t care” mess… And if you think I’m just blowing smoke he is a clear example.. My old high school from its founding in the early 50’s had the Indian for its mascot, The art work used was always tasteful and even majestically done and sporting event behavior was never too over done, Well about the time I was a junior the school board wanted to replace our mascot because “it might be offensive to the native people”. It started a huge debate and even after some Native American students and there family’s (the very ones they where worried about offending) spoke in favor of keeping the Indian name and mascot it still took the board three years to drop the replacement plan and keep it…

There is so much CYA going on that it’s nuts. People need to grow a spine, suck it up and stop suing for ridiculous things. This whole way of getting rich by being offended and suing is the biggest problem and judges need to start fining people who bring frivolous lawsuits into the courts.

I am not an Indian, nor am I of Indian descent. But I am every bit a Native American – or native American, however you capitalize it makes no difference. My old high school mascot was the Wilcox Tech Indians, and we were proud of it. I don’t know if they changed it or not, but I hope not.

In my town, the Vero Beach High School Indians are a very proud lot. Now my law school, Quinnipiac University, used to have the Braves as their mascot. But someone got the notion that it was “offensive,” although nobody explained how or why, and it was changed to the Bobcats. I hope we’re not offending any Lynx rufus out there. I once commented that people were being anal-retentive about this whole thing, and it still goes.

Hey – the University of Massachusetts’ mascot is the Minutemen. Oh me oh my, are we offending any Minutemen out there? Should it be “Minutepersons?” AAHHHHHH!!!

There will always be someone out there who will sue. School boards are by nature squeamish. Do I care if a school uses a Native American mascot? Not if the local Native Americans don’t mind.

This string was a great slam on the idiotic curse of political correctness plaguing the country. If we could rein in the lawyers and get rid of tort law, we would be way better off.

How can I sue the University of Notre Dame for stereotyping and defamation? Not all Irish are fighting, you know.

Now we are all getting into the spirit of the thing. If we all sue somebody for something or other, nobody will be able to move or to say anything. I can understand Gordo’s feelings exactly.

I guess because I was ‘educated by television,’ I thought the offending word referred to people of Italian descent, my bad!

Although, I will admit that smug people from all over get their panties( or cups) in a bunch over the most petty things.

I think that Hobbs should sue the Detroit Baseball team for deframation and slander. Hobbs is a Tiger, and the Detroit team is usually a bunch of pussycats! (Hey! I was born there, and the bums waited from the time I was born until after Uncle Sam called on me [“Friends and Neighbor’s” my aching hind foot!] before they got into a Pennant Race.)

How does “grease” analogize to the Greeks? As in people from Greece? Or as in frat guys?

The show should be called “Dippity-Do”. It would suit the Political correctness of the school.

I reckon you can sue the State of Minnesota – or at least plunder and pillage them. Or pillage and plunder. Whatever.
