I’m amazed at how much recapping they do each day. It seems whole days are restructured with slightly different dialogue but the same things happened the day or two before. Talk about stretching it out.
After months of commenting on the degradation of this strip, I am now all out of comments. I am a spend force. DT and Dick Locher, you win! Your persistence with bad quality work has worn me out…….. I am waving the white flag and going to go lie down now.
The cops would have already shot the clown. As soon as he pulled out his gun, probably. In the old days of this strip, the clown would have put a bullet through Tracy’s fedora, and Tracy would have put one through the clown’s head.
Pops was having himself a great big hoot
Hurling invective and there was Tracy to shoot
A hulking shadow behind him Tracy did survey
It seemed its owner grew larger with each passing day
Would the clown ever see something behind him that big
Or would Fe Fi break him in two just like a rotten twig
When the story began we had such high hopes
We now see that Locher was just playing us for dopes
Another day, another rehash of what we’ve seen before
The story must end, because we can’t take anymore
I can’t understand why the officer didn’t shoot the clown. Since the suspect shot first officers would return fire. I don’t think they had taser back then.
Back then? Didn’t ya read the “About Dick Tracy” blurb? This is Dick Tracy modernized for the 21st Century. He catches litterbugs, double-parkers, and message-board trolls now!
Boy just when you thought this strip couldn’t get any worse you get this! Soooo many errors. 1st the recoil would have sent him into the cage with the tiger. 2nd the cops would have open fire immediately upon him drawing the gun and shooting at them. 3rd How the hell did fe fi get up on top of the cage?
I SERIOUSLY hope the “something is moving up there” mentioned in the strip above is referring to the long arm of the cartoonists’ syndicate ready to revoke a membership card….. YEESH!
“Lemme think … I’m trying to remember what they taught me in that Shoot / Don’t Shoot class but I’m afraid I spent most of my time in police academy paying more attention to that police cadette who always wore the see-through blouses than to the lecturer…. It’s not necessarily okay to start shooting just because he’s shooting at us, is it? Is it? It’s hard to think with all this noise…. I’ll ask Tracy; maybe he remembers. Uh oh, the brain-damaged old fart thinks he sees something moving up there and nothing else is going to get his attention until he figures out what it is. What does he care? He’s been shot at so many times it means nothing to him – but I’m a minor character! I don’t have his immunity! Ackkkkkkkk!”
Fee Fi’s really growing! That’s one strong cage. It held Della Contessa, Tracy, and Ennen last week and now it’s holding Fee Fi and Mr. Pops. Wonder why it needs to be so tall? It’s nearly as high as the tent!
Flight Suit: Unless someone like Sydney will generously send you some of the Gould strips you will have to buy them. They are not cheap but well worth the price. I have a fairly extensive collection of reprinted archives myself but I am in Canada. They are not in my computer except for the last 7 years or so. I also have a couple of Big Little Books, The Blank and one other. Villains like Flattop and Shakey etc. are absolute classics. You can actually track the technical history of America reading those strips. The cars, the store fronts the scenery etc. even the phones show the developing technology over the years. Character developement is great and the changes in art and comics in general are all there preserved in Chester Gould’s work. Order at least one of the reprinted books from Amazon preferably not the first 3 or 4 but #5 or higher to get the very best work to sample. You will be saving money to buy more of them I guarantee it.
By the way, I just got back from a trip to Saskatchewan and haven’t seen Syd on this site since coming back. Where did he go…………????
Every day I think that there is no way this comic can get any worse, and every day I am proven wrong. Good grief, can someone put this wonderful classic out of its misery rather than letting it continue to deteriorate?
Mr. Slops, who is precariously perched and in the open, starts a gun battle with two cops who are behind cover. What kind of an idiot is Mr. Slops?
Since Mr. Slops fired a shot, this is now a life or death matter, yet the cop wants to discuss the situation with DT. What kind of an idiot is the cop?
After months and months of crappy writing and artwork, I am still reading this strip. What kind of idiot am I?

Sure, take him out! An early dinner and drinks, maybe a movie? Who knows, you might really hit it off!

People here have referred to being able to read the old DT in the “Gould Archives.” Could somebody please tell me where I might find them?

Something is moving up there. Something that’s 8 feet tall and has a toe for a thumb.

Flight Suit: When you finish with this page head over to amazon.com and punch in Dick Tracy. Look under books and your question should be answered.

Mr. Pops must be a Brit. (“Fe Fi Fo Fum. I smell the blood…..”

Thank you, punchydugan. I was hoping to find a place online where I could check ‘em out, though.

Do you think they actually get paid to write and draw this strip?

The top of the cage is a popular place, it seems. No matter, bring the pig on wheels back! Maybe he’s up there, too!
