I recall a National Geographic special on cats claiming that cats have a unique greeting for humans (the one we call “meow”), combining two they use for each other: “me” (“I’m glad to see you”) and “ow” (“Keep your distance”).
“Meow”. “I’m glad to see you, but keep your distance.” Yep. Sounds just like a cat with its human “staff”.
They all have their own distinct fursonalities and their own way of expressing themselves. Once they get to know you, they’ll know just how to go about running your life.
Cats and computers. Bring them into your home and your life is no longer your own.
How about Cats On Computers?! Mine have a habit of walking across the keyboard to get attention. And I used to have one that would sit on the mouse so you would have to acknowledge his supreme needs.
Keyboards both computer and musical, newspapers, books and just about any other item that humans use to say this is my space, a cat will come along and say ‘Like heck it is!’ Don’t ya just love ‘em!
Yes, we do!! And mine don’t just meow; they make different sounds depending on what it is they want. Even a special one for “play with me” time! Almost as good at conversations as husbands.
(I love cats…other people’s cats…better than dogs…other people’s dogs. Would never own either one. And sorry, cats, I have the opposable thumbs and the can opener and you don’t, so I own you by default.)
Every cat has its own unique personality. A friend of mine has two very different cats. One will open the door to the cupboard where she keeps the cans of catfood, and push with its paw to get a can to fall down. The other one, when it’s hungry, pushes with its paw to move pots around so they clang, to get her attention.
I can speak Cat not too bad. That is, I can say several different Meows that can catch a cat’s attention, and it looks at me, and I could swear it’s thinking “What’s this strange-looking creature saying? It’s definitely not a cat!”
Not really to change the subject, I was thinking what an ugly cat in the first panel, and surely Russell Myers can draw better than that, and then I saw the second panel and I was satisfied.
And isn’t the flower at the top of Broomie’s hat cute? I’ve never seen that before!

Good explanation, Broomie.

Mine says “meow” because he knows I speak his language and he’s saying “feed me”.

Broomie may or may not be precisely correct in her translation, but she definitely understands the Language of Cats.

Dogs have masters, cats have staff.

Today’s “Mutts” cartoon by Patrick O’Donnell says it all.

Cats are not pets, they are co-owners.

I’ll never be a cat’s staff member. I despise the little fur balls.

Just to increase your disdain, BC13:
“Cats don’t rent, they own.” :))

Notice the detailed stripes on the cat; I think stripes on cats in comics have been mandatory since the ’70s, thanks to Heathcliff and Garfield.

Only humans waste their times saying what Broomie said instead of “meow”

The ancient Egyptians worshipped cats as gods - cats have never forgotten……..
