Uncle Walt didnât stay in his seat. Apparently, even if you have a bogus ticket, if youâre 106, some respect is paid and no one messed with him. Also, Bryd is covering for Gertie since she was involuntarily drawn into Byrdâs stage show.
Yes, itâs a shame that Walt wandered off, and itâs a shame that the Wallet clan didnât hear Gertieâs side of the storyâŠjust like itâs a shame that I almost hit a car in my âblind spotâ the other day.
But you know what? No one was hurt, and while things came dangerously close to the limit, people realized the error and corrected their course.
People are so quick to judge when itâs others involved. Iâd really like to meet some of these folks, as they have obviously never made a serious mistake and learned from it.
Iâm glad Earl set them straight about what really happened, but it wouldâve been better if theyâd listened to her. Too bad Earl didnât talk to her personally so he could ask her for a date.
Gertie has at least three children, including a daughter named Gwen (GA: 3rd & 15th Sept. 2004). Wouldnât she want to have Thanksgiving with them? (change my name to ContinuityFreak)
Good to see a bit of compassion in these difficult days. Gertie would have had a horrible time in the job market if she had been fired. Happy Thanksgiving indeed!
Forget the nay sayers and the trolls, I want to say to all, Have a Wonderful Thanksgiving. You too Jim, you deserve all you do for your hard work and wonderful art. GREAT JOB!
This âdevelopmentâ was fairly obvious for a long time. Scancarelli has invested a lot of himself in the Gertie character and there was NO chance that she was going anywhere. While it is nice to see some of the Wallet clan, I hate to see them used as merely plot devices in weak story lines.
Gertie may not be able to visit her children if, like mine, they are all several states away from each other and everyone has to work Friday.
Has Skeezix has been checking out the hair color for men section of his pharmacy? :y
Allâs well that ends well, indeed! Byrd, get on the phone!
I highly commend Jim not only for the obvious great art work, but for the fantastic story. It went to prove that not only no one person is perfect, but that those who are responsible to themselves and others acknowledge their errors. All the others are obviously miserable within themselves. How very sad.
Will there be more errors in the future of each of us? Most certainlyâŠbut hopefully not the same ones. I donât recall the author of the quote, âHe who doesnât make mistakes, doesnât do anythingâ.
Anyway, ONWARD from here. MUCH more life yet to be lived. I am looking very forward to the next episode.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE⊠and certainly as well to you, Mr. Jim.
If âMr. Jimâ invested himself in Gertie, heâs either keeping most of his funds in liquid assets or he was close to bankrupt to start with.
Lemme ask you Mr. Jim afficionados something. If these lame shenanigans were going on in a new strip called âBirdie and the Gert,â how many of you would give it a second look?
Thatâs what I mean by riding on the coat-tails of greatness. If Mr. Jim had an ounce of integrity, heâd spin these new characters off in a new strip and see how they stand up on their own. This isnât Gasoline Alley any more, itâs Philistine Alley.
Phaw. And hey, roohey: Iâd say âenjoy your turkey,â but for you it would be cannibalism.
Walt did NOT wander off ok? The usher disputed the tickets and it was GERTIE who left Walt as she wandered off herself backstage to seek Byrdâs help to settle it. Then all the hoopla resulted of her awful act on stage and loosing Walt. The truth should come out!

Mark me down for that! It was the Gertie and Byrd saga that pulled me back into GA. As glib as you are, however, I wouldnât be headed to www.ocean17.com everyday just to read your thoughtsâ so to me youâre riding Jimâs coat-tails of greatness! You should be thankful for the traffic Jim creates at the âcornerâ where you mount your soapbox. Happy Thanksgiving!
It may still be that Walt goes into the nursing homeâŠso Gert and Byrd can go out on the roadâŠbut perhaps that is a future storyâŠHope all have a nice Thanksgiving-
the GA holiday strip is always a nice touch in my book

What? I donât understand. Somehow Earl Lee made it alright? But Gertie WAS negligent.
This is a bad way to resolve this.

Happy it all worked out, but it reflects poorly on Corky and Skeezix that they didnât just listen to Gertie.

The only believable plot advancement going on here is the hole Rufus is digging at the cemetery. I wonder who itâs for? Is there a suggestion box?

Axe is right, that first panel could be from the Telephone Song from âBye-bye Birdieâ.
