For Better or For Worse by Lynn Johnston for October 15, 2008
Transcript:
Elly: I don't believe this! You're hiring a girl with almost no experience over one infinitely more qualified? Looks have nothing to do with ability! It's you male chauvinist pigs who decorate their offices with dumb but beautiful women! John: But, Elly... somebody's got to hire them...

This strip has really gone down the tubes. Stereotyping must be one of Lynn’s new hobbies.

Where do you people think Tech’s GET experience? They don’t walk out of school with the same skills as a Tech who has been working 10 years. If Elly has problems with who John hires, why doesn’t she go to school so he can hire HER?
Lynn’s life has changed and the strip is changing. I’m betting the lives of no one who reads the strip has stayed the same. If you don’t like the strip now, go buy her books and reread them.

Bring Farley back NOW!

Uh, folks — these are reprints from the 70s. Take them as tiny trips to the past.

Isn’t this the logic we’ve bee given for choosing a VP here in the states?
The more things change, the more they stay the same …

I think this one is funny. And John is serious!
alondra about 16 years ago
Looks over ability huh, John? You’re an idiot and I had thought you were a nice guy.

If you want time travel, go see Calvin!!

To most of the previous commenters: I don’t think this is a recent strip. Yesterday’s “Shania Twain” reference suggests the current storyline is a re-run. (I wish gocomics would put the original year on these things.)
It’s just kinda spooky how this fits with current events…

Is this the John we’ve come to know and love?

Hmm. I thought these were reworked strips, being more jokey than the ones with story lines, and using her old style. Bytheway, didn’t Lynn Johnston divorce her husband because he took up with his assistant?

I agree with Jahosacat. And people..if you don’t like this strip anymore and not going to read it anymore, feel free not to tell us.

John IS NOT a jerk! He didn’t even say he was going to hire the beautiful one, and Elly is ASSUMING he will and ranting about it. SHE OWES HIM AN APOLOGY!!! John is still the same sweet guy we have known all these years. I just hope Lynn doesn’t let her own hurt color Elly’s relationship with John. Neither they, nor we her readers, deserve such a childish reaction to a real life which does not belong in this strip.

You know, if I wanted to read a comic where the characters act like children I’d be reading LuAnn right now. At least they’re supposed to be immature.

And then again, maybe tomorrow John will tell her that he couldnt afford to pay the experianced hygenist.

Is JPuzzlewhiz a cartoonist? I can’t imagine it somehow.

Amongst all the controversy nobody mentioned that John’s glasses were not drawn in the first panel.
JetSilver about 16 years ago
Come people - its a comic. Its not necessarily how Lynn feels.
I found this the funniest thing she has done in many weeks. But then I get to hire people and to approve other peoples hires, so its a little closer to home.
summerdog86 about 16 years ago
Oh, I noticed, howlindawgs. The glasses are there, just the side bar is missing.

Funny, I don’t recall John saying a thing about the pretty one not being qualified. Besides, he’s hired ELLY, hasn’t he? And she’s about as qualified for dental hygenics as Helen Keller!
