That’s exactly how my puppy greeted me after I got back from being gone five days for a wedding last week, come to think of it…

OOOF! reminds me of any time I used to see my uncles Pure Bred Blood Hound, Ginger when I was Mike’s age … ah how I miss those days of not worrying that I had to wash my face/hands after petting an animal LOL

My two cats greet us about the same way when we return from a trip! It is really nice to get a warm, loving “welcome back”!!

I could be gone for 30 minutes and my dogs greet me like that!

Not my cats. A dog will greet you this way but not usually a cat. I missed Macushla something awful but when I came home and sat beside her on the sofa she looked up at me and said, “Oh you’re back.” Then she went back to sleep.

My kitties give us the cold shoulder for a couple of days as “punishment.” Then they are all snuggles.

The VERY reason I can’t stand cats. Such selfish animals, in my opinion.

That’s why the expression, “You own a dog, but a cat owns you.” When I would get my dog from the kennel after being away, he would act very sad and sorrowful like he’d done something wrong and this was his punishment. I felt terrible having to put him up.

I make a small business of in-home cat care to keep this from happening–and it works pretty well so they aren’t standoffish.

Just wait until they hear the can opener, the kibbles hitting their dish, or the pop top.

My dog starts screaming before I even get the car door open. He acts like I have been gone for days when I have only gone to the grocery store for a few things. When it’s not hot and humid I take him with me but in the summer I have to leave him at home in the air-conditioning.

That is exactly why I have five dogs. Nowhere else can you find such unconditional love with so little asked in return. It is “agape” (probably the 2nd definition if you look it up). I also have two cats and I love them dearly. But I think their love for me is based more on my being the source of food and catnip!

We had a cat that would pointedly sit in front of me with his back turned when I came home after being away. If I moved to another room he would come with me and sit down about 3 feet away with his back to me. After a few hours of this, he would be all cuddles and “welcome home”. He just wanted me to know that my extended absence was not acceptable behavior.

All this is true about cats and dogs. We have two cats - used to be three. Our cats used to have a sitter that came in and when we came back from travel, it was “oh, you’re home.” Now that our son lives with us again, whenever we go away and then come home, our cats are “man are we glad to see you. That rat doesn’t clean the litter as often as you and doesn’t give us as much attention as you, and ….” LOL

Our cat Lillith sits on the carpet in front of the door when I’m leaving for work and won’t let me pass. She usually complains loudly when I walk past her to the door. She is also usually there at the door when I come home after work.

She also comes into the bathroom every morning after I get out of the shower, sits on the toilet seat and meows at me until I take my wet hand and rub her down. I guess she thinks that if I’m getting a bath, she needs one too!

Oh, and Lillith is all black except for a tiny white patch on her belly (neutering scar?). She also lives up to her namesake… She is a little demon cat! LOL

I loved to see when my dear cat waited for me to get home from work or somewhere else. He was happy to see me and purred mellowly. Other than that, he didn’t care much at all. He knew me when I go out or come home either.

It’s a mixed blessing seeing Farley again. On one hand, he’s an absolute sweetie. On the other hand, it’s depressing, knowing his eventual fate.

That is pretty much everybody’s fate. I said let’s enjoy Farley while he is here.

My two indoor cats usually met me at the door waiting to see if I have brought them in any grass to nibble on.

If I’m gone for just a short time, my cats greet me by sitting on the back of the sofa and watching out the window for my return. I’m then met at the door with head butts and much purring. If I’m gone for a day or two, and the kitty sitter has been watching them, they give me the cold shoulder for awhile before finally forgiving me and condescending to “speak” to me again. The forgiveness process usually involves food in some form or another, although they have been known to unbend for a new catnip toy.

A test of love – lock your wife and your dog in the trunk of your car for an hour. When you open the trunk, which one is really, really happy to see you?

So, if people’s feelings became more like dogs’, then in turn cat’s feeling’s became more like their intended masters, WOW..what a much better place this might be!

actually, this behavior is why I don’t like dogs. Can’t stand the jumping and licking and being run over - gimme a cat any time! My cat greets me every time when I come home, but without the tongue…

It helps to have two cats. So far, had no problem with them when I am away on trip. My very first pet, with no playpal, used to think she is my mother (she licked the side of my eye raw – I loved to be licked by a cat – but hers was very rough). When I return home from trip, she would hiss at me VERY LOUDLY and I am hearing impaired, but she is nice to my mother. Guess because my mother did the most work of feeding her, etc. This would go on for at least 2 or 3 days. Just in case this make a different, my first cat was a Siami (spelling???) cat.
