Non Sequitur by Wiley Miller for November 22, 2009
Transcript:
Homer: My plan to escape an attack by the murderous tribe-with-no-name worked... to a point. These were unfamiliar waters, and my lack of bearings for navigation was made worse by running into a powerful squall... as I fought to hold the old Viking ship together, fear gripped everyone on board... all except one... the tribe elder, who just calmly smiled and pointed to something off in the distance. I just needed to keep the ship afloat and follow Duncan back to a safe harbor. Duncan: Again! And you're welcome by the way... Angel: Ah, you kept your wits about you... that's a big step for you, Homer! Homer: The only problem was where there are seals, there are rocks... lots and lots of big rocks... Homer - the Reluctant Soul.

Their fate could be sealed.

âAlways with the negative waves, Moriarity, always with the negative wavesâ.

where there are seals there are rocks
⊠and the ship was really rolling in those waves.
Ow! What! Whaâd I say??
madKanga over 15 years ago
Should we declare Sundays a pun-free zone? Lest we be pun-ished for it?

Jon Sequitur, I just tried and had no problems at all making the edit and delete buttons in Chrome do what they should. Are you sure it isnât something else?
OK then, Iâm sure theyâll give you your money back.

Yah, that must be it. Something else.

Edible buttons? How do you work your computer after youâve eaten them all?
ironflange over 15 years ago
Iâve been wondering: has God had a computer from the very start, or did he have to wait for humans to invent it?
ChazNCenTex over 15 years ago
Off the Homer-ous topic at hand, but if Godâs using a computer, I hope he doesnât need to reboot anytime soon.
mickchump over 15 years ago
God has no need of computers. We now have computers because of Him.
Wiley creator over 15 years ago
Just to clarify this again⊠the character at the computer is Bert, the counseling angel for Homer, not God.
Also, there will be a big announcement tomorrow!
GROG Premium Member over 15 years ago
The suspense is killing me. Now tomorrow canât come fast enough.
madKanga over 15 years ago
On the Jesus and puns thing - I donât think *he* would have had a problem - he even healed a child because her mother gave a smart answer to his initial refusal (the Syro-Phonecian woman, if I recall correctly)
madKanga over 15 years ago
Looking forward to tomorrow (this afternoon for me) - does that mean I get to know sooner?
Kaytebb over 15 years ago
I canât look!!!
I love the Sunday story series. If you miss a week, itâs really easy to go back and pick it up by clicking on the calendar above the comic. Somebody was complaining about that last week. EashâŠ
And Wiley, please donât let the announcement be that youâre retiring!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!! What would this world be without Danae, Capt. Eddie and Obvious Man?!
spok27 over 15 years ago
Going back to yesterday, if you want to read more clever word play, may I recommend Jasper Fforde, Robert Rankin, Christopher Moore, and of course, Terry Pratchett.
MatureCanadian over 15 years ago
Canât wait for next week as it is and now tomorrow too! Argh! Great art Wiley, thanks.

I heard that Calvin Klein is going to combine itâs two most famous perfumes. âObsessionâ and âEternityâ. Theyâre calling it âObscenityââŠ
keenanthelibrarian over 15 years ago
Now thatâs a perfume Iâd buy.
nonsequitous over 15 years ago
âObsessionâ ⊠âEternityâ ⊠âObscenityâ
Theyâre hoping for better luck than when they bought Perry Ellisâ Reserve and combined it with Obsession.
Not much they could do but sit there and watch their stock prices tank on that one.

Australia; too cool for your Sunday comics. Alas.
At least we get your weekday ones half a day early.
ProBonoPublico over 15 years ago
And yes, Wiley is right. Tomorrow will be a deliciously interesting announcement.
Almost unbearably so.

Please, no proselytizing here. This is comics forum, not your church.

Sorry, I wonât mention the dead chickens again. But honest, we put âem to good use. Fried to a golden brown, just like my momma used to make on Sunday afternoon after chur-
Sorry.
UmmâŠ. how âbout them Patriots, eh!
What? No, thatâs football, not politics!
UmmâŠ. my favorite color is red. No! Blue! Oh, what a state Iâm in. White! Argh! Plaid!

Its your church - er .. forum - so we should abide by your rules, Wiley (although a little bit of religious debate *is* funâŠ)
Abida3x7 over 15 years ago
It takes guts to share your beliefs ⊠. and your chicken! Man, I do love a good chicken ⊠and having a personal belief system ainât too shabby either. The way I see it, both keep you healthy and are great stuffed and baked!

Wiley:This story has âBOOKâ written all over it. Please Donât retire. Weâve lost so much Calvin, Hobbes, Foxtrot is Sunday only Now my local paper stopped Valient. I will TOON in Tomorrow.
madKanga over 15 years ago
kristi - does that mean your beliefs are stuffed and (at least half) baked? (sorry, the devil made me do it :-))
Abida3x7 over 15 years ago
Jon - You are lucky Iâm addicted to YouTube. Kudos!
madKanga - I assure you that my beliefs are either fully baked or hard core and raw. No in between. ;)

to all the halfwits on here bringing their political and religious diatribe: with all due respect, GO AWAY. This is a cartoon people, not a forum for you to spout. If you want to spout go to Doonesbury or State of the Union and argue all you want, but please, please, leave those of us who just want to laugh about the comic alone.

Drumstick?
steverinoCT over 15 years ago
Punning authors: Harry Harrisonâs âBill the Galactic Heroââ the original, not the crummy sequels.
Paraphrasing: âBill kept his extra cash in a toy rubber cat he found, and bit by bit the kitty grew.â
yyyguy over 15 years ago
piers anthonyâs first couple of xanth books. when they had interesting plots and werenât just an excuse to string puns together.
Abida3x7 over 15 years ago
I appreciate the drumstick!
I was under the impression that we were spouting our fowl beliefs (haha, get it?), not our individual political and religious stances. Iâm having fun ⊠why get uptight?
Now Iâm hungry. :(
