Coming Soon đ At the beginning of April, youâll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
Okay, plot holes. Pike says âTheyâll find outâ if he cooks the books any further. So how did Haku Kou find out about the shakedown? And if Doubleup wants to stop production, shouldnât he threaten a highly-placed executive instead of the towel boy? At a minimum we need some kind of detail about who Pike is, and other acts that would arouse HKâs suspicions.
Oh, boy! This could lead to a bullwhip vs. bullwhip showdown between Doubleup and Haku Kou! Now that would be exciting! âŚProbably wonât happen, though. Doubleup will take his trouble up a different path.
Itâs almost 3 A.M. here in TennesseeâŚmy first time to read DT hot off the press.
Mike & JoeâŚwhere is Dick ?
Iâm in the process of reading the original Flattop story, and was surprised that it ran from Dec. to May in â40-â41 ( maybe it was â41-â42 )âŚany palns for stories of this length ?
@Buzzy â Flattop is 1943 to 1944 (often considered to be Gouldâs best year, with Flattop, Shaky, and The Brow). @Carlo â Yearâs not over yet. That said, Doubleup is proving to be a great villain. Still excited for Sundayâs strip :DAaron
She sits forlorn on the empty setNot much time for her to fretFate has set the stageFor her to face Doubledipâs rageHis revenge for slights perceivedHe seeks to make Lizz aggrievedThe whip, it can rip and tearOr it can touch but a single hairBut Doubletrouble is a beastLizz he will try to make deceasedWith a snap, the crack of the mini sonic boomSounds the knell of her doomIn a chair she has been restrainedHer helplessness is not being feignedLike Pauline in the days of yoreLizz faces perils by the scoreJust who will be her gallant knightThe one to save her from this plight? But that is for another dayAnd another nickel you must pay.
The Colorist really screwed up Panel 1. Why would the SCARLET Sting have green and purple versions of his coustume? Unless, the real Scarlet Sting hurt his foot jumping out a window and has his long lost twin brother take his place. His brother thinks the Scarlet Sting should be a little moreâŚwellâŚFlamboyant..
For whatever reason, theyâre skipping over too many explanations. Iâd find it easier to accept this undercover gig if theyâd explained why they couldnât ID the shakedown artist. And if weâd heard some details about the shakedown. And, for that matter, how Doubleup got into the studio, or set, or whatever it is. Donât most studios discourage trespassers to prevent them from disrupting shoots, swiping scripts and props, and taking spoiler photos?
If this were a Locher-esque mess, weâd have another three weeks of Doubleup deciding exactly what outfit heâd be choosing from the racks, while Lizz would have lost her second z and her good looks while sitting around in the police office doing nothing and Tracy quivered in fear in the corner. Locher-esque is a harsh assessment. While I agree that the story does need smoothing out, the creative team has gotten the go-ahead for longer stories AND are still settling into their rhythms. Years of working on comic books (which have different pacing and restrictions altogether) and a practice audition run are one thing, and the actual grind of a day to day comic strip quite another. This is a team thatâs been doing this since March of this year, not a man with 32 years of experience under his belt who should know better. And I might add, been doing this since March and already doing this well with the strip. Even with the flaws, I find myself entertained, something I cannot say for any of the stories during Locherâs solo run.Aaron

The person doing the coloring is not reading the strip. Comics Kingdom has them in scarlet.

the shakedown plot is kinda weak but DT often dealt with petty hoods and crooks â doubleup is a psychotic hood.
