The whole problem is that college coaches will recruit anyone they think can help their team win, including street thugs. Inner-city kids who saw sports as their ticket out of the ghetto were always recruited, but within the last 15 years, college coaches have been taking anyone with talent, even those with no plans to change their lifestyle, even if they make it in the pros. The more street thugs that play in college, the more there are that will make it in the pros. Part of the code of being a thug is not to change, which is why they will constantly get into trouble.
Aint gonna happen, Roger. Payton Manning was genetically created and raised since birth to be a model football quarterback. I suspect if cut Manning would probably bleed transmission fluid. Payton may well be the whitest person in existence – certainly ever to play in the NFL.
(shrugs) It goes beyond that, Ed. Athletes are given a free ride in our society, for the most part. If you or I get pulled over for running a red light at 3 AM with a beer bottle in our hands, we’ll probably spend the night in a cage. If the star quarterback for the playoff-bound squad does, the cops’ll let him slide. If you or I throw a cinder block through a grocery store window, we’re in for it. If the All-State point guard does, the store won’t dare press charges. Bad grades, they’ll find a way; financial troubles, they’ll find a way.
And even now, the big limiting factor is how GOOD you are. If Michael Vick was a 3rd-stringer, no pro team on the continent would dream of touching him, nor a single reporter dare to suggest anyone should.
or, just a thought, you could avoid running a red light at 3am or , sort of a novelty, try to keep from throwing cinder blocks through grocery store windows….

sounds vaguely disdainful and critical…..don’t know why…
how could you criticize anybody who simply has dedicated his life to his profession and is constantly practicing and reviewing…..
maybe it will help to ‘humanize’ him more if you heard some of his salty language when he throws an interception or somebody runs the wrong route……
yes, number 18 throws’ F’ bombs too…..
