AMAZING art! I was away for a few days, and am just catching up. Well, Stringmuse, you are about to get the serenade you predicted. I hope it is for Gertie! Good storyline, Jim.
I have to say I’m enjoying this story arc more than any in recent memory, despite (or maybe because of) the lack of the ‘regulars.’ Perhaps Scancarelli is setting up a spinoff strip? I assume, however, that Earl isn’t saying he wrote the ‘Angel Eyes’ that Ella Fitzgerald was singing back in the ’50s…
I like John Hiatt’s Angel Eyes too, especially the cover by New Grass Revival. No doubt Earl’s is an original, inspired by the lovely Gertie. I can’t wait to see how the song is portrayed in the cartoon.
Realizing that no one may care in the least, it is my opinion that Jim does a great job with this classic strip. His art is without argument among the best in comics. I am enjoying this arc.
MoParMitch– we can’t let the nattering nabobs of negativism (who seem to come back for more GA every day anyway!) obscure the truth of what you said. Not many cartoonists would even attempt art like Jim delivers. I agree, this is a most enjoyable storyline. We are in the majority.
Dypak: my wife is a long-time Dire Straits fan, but I really liked the duet album of Emmylou Harris and Mark Knopfler. Some sublime gems there.
Hey Axe! I’ve been into Dire Straits since the Love Over Gold album, with Industrial Disease. What a great, bluesy rock band.

The look on Gerties face in priceless. I’m afraid she thought she’d never be anyones Angel Eyes again. What a wonderful thing to happen to a nice lady. Hope it all works out.
