You’d think they would have the EMT’s there for the survivors’ well-being. Shirl ought to be under arrest, cuffed, and disarmed (remember, she is a cop). And her cellphone would make nice evidence, except it probably won’t make it to the Property Room.
With her comment in the center panel, she’s gonna try to put Tracy on a guilt trip! Good luck, Sweetie!
Morrow: Not to mention that Tracy himself should be under arrest, cuffed, and disarmed(then again he never shoots his gun anymore so why bother?) on manslaughter charges for killing his prisoner Baskerville.
At least someone finally took out the trash. I love the fact that Tracy’s arm seems stuck in the same position as yetserday (center panel).
Wow, DickTracy ruined Shirl’s future. I’m sure with a bird-face like that she really had a bright outlook on life and lots of opportunities to promote herself. re: This comic….. had a terrible ending! Where is the part where something terrible happens to Shirl? DT needs revenge.
Here, DickTracy, why don’t you share this garbage-filled pita with Shirl as a peace offering? Nothing says friendship like a terrible sandwich.
Man, if someone who can’t close thier lips is complaining that YOU ruined everything, that is when you know that you really messed with them…. or perhaps just forced some sort of dental equipment into their gums. I notice that Mr. Swat does not describe what kind of memory Baskerville was. His lack of adjectives makes me think… was Baskerville a good memory? Bad? Erotic? I leave it to you, ladies, gentlemen, and sandwiches, to decide.
Alladinsane: Tracy didn’t kill Baskerville, the dogs attacked and killed him…like Baskerville wanted to do to anyone other than himself and his gang. I hope they go into Shirl Locke’s story a little, like why she hooked up with the bad guys when she’s a cop…
Tracy grabbed Baskerville’s whistle and gave it to Shirl to save her life. The dogs then turned away from her and to Baskerville. And Tracy and the Swat guys stood idly by with the guns they’ve been waving around for days and let the dogs make a Milkbone out of Baskerville.
Tracy called Animal Control yes but it was “Soon” before they got there and too late for Baskerville. Since Tracy knew beforehand about the dogs being in the robbery, why werent the Animal Control guys already there to take them down the moment they walked in the door?
Baskerville definitely deserved what he got. Not only for endangering others with his dogs, but being a bleeep idiot. Not only did this brilliant dog trainer come up with a harebrained scheme to constantly blow whistles to keep the dogs of him and the gang, he didnt bother training them any “release” word or phrase to deactivate them in case something went wrong. And he deservedly paid with his life for it.
That being said, Tracy had Baskerville and gang secured and under arrest and in custody and the dogs quieted until Shirl came busting in. When Shirl was attacked, Tracy took Baskerville’s whistle and gave it to Shirl and even remarked how the whistle will protect her but not him. Hence he decided that Shirl lives and his prisoner Baskerville dies without benefit of judge or jury.
Tracy has blood on his hands for this gruesome death, deserving as Baskerville was of it. Of course, nothing but praise unto the Squarest of Jaws will come of it.
Bottom line: Tracy failed at the crucial moment of moral choice.
When the dogs attacked Baskerville, Tracy and the other cops CHOSE to allow it to happen. After all, they had guns – and were not merely helpless onlookers.
Even though Baskerville was a crook, he was a human being and his life had value. So, when the dogs attacked and no other options were available, Tracy and the other officers should have shot the attacking dogs. Instead, they chose to do nothing – a decision that reflects Tracy’s apparent inability to recognize that even the lives of criminals have value.

The storylines in this strip are nearly as memorable as “Plan Nine From Outer Space.”

Sorry for the long windedness there.

Of course Tracy couldn’t shoot the dogs. This is a family cartoon strip! ;-)
