Coming Soon đ At the beginning of April, youâll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
You know, I am beginning to believe that the Naperville police and fire forces were the guys that provided air cover for the Bay of Pigs.
I shall not enumerate the inconsistencies that are prevalent in todays strip, suffice to say they are many.
Umm, I thought she wanted âLove Fireâ Perfume?
Wasnât her car airborne the other day??
Letâs stand around and watch her burn up. That goes by the Policeman motto Iâm sure!
If Tracy is calling in for assistance wouldnât that mean Liz(z) would be aware of whatâs going on? Yesterday Tracy was filling her in on all the hi-jinks.
Puhleeeze folks.A little slack for Tracy. It is after all, just a comical strip. If you want reality go to Hollywood.Or better yet Washington D.C.HAR de HAR HAR !
I thought the car went âCLONKâ not âthunkâ. any accident re-constructionist knows that a âthunkâ will not set a car ablaze. It takes a major âCLONKâ to do that. and speaking of major CLONKSâŠ.. aahhh never mindâŠ
damifino59 saysâ
âPuhleeeze folks a little slack for Tracy, it is after all just a âCOMICALâ strip. etcâ.
Well âdamiâ Iâm not sure how long you have been around or been reading the current strip but your choice of word IS (may I add, inadvertently?) âright onâ.
COMICAL (definition): âFunny to the extent of being absurd, ESPECIALLY if unintended.â
I agree with that definition! We have that in abundance in DT every day. Problem is the Author has too much âslackâ, enough to be seen to be producing âSLACKâ work in the strip every week. A paucity of care, focus, attention to detail and rigor. Many readers believe the strip has slipped into being the kind of âcomicalâ, AS âdefinedâ above.
Itâs not something to laugh about âdamiâ, NO âHAR HARâ, try âBOO HOO - BOO HOOâ!
Have readers noticed what I call the new âLOCH FADâ (not located off Glascow, Scotland; but try Chicago Ill.) ie Locherâs latest artistic âfadâ ⊠large, popping-out eyes? We saw them as a main feature in the Braces âdesignâ and then in Nollâs one eye appearance, NOW,⊠see how Tracy âgogglesâ them at every opportunity in this story. eg.See the last two panels today.
Some seasons ago the âLOCH FADâ was a âbashed-inâ back-of-the-neck fashion design (see: Cellphone-2005, Al Kinda-2006 and Figment Froid-2006)
Donât be surprised if our next villain is named ⊠âGOGGLE EYESâ. (and for good reason!)
Yes, tommys, the poor mammary was not wearing its seat belt, and got ejected, but it did escape the inferno, which would have melted it instantly. It now lives to face another Sunday.
Hey Sydney, I bet you made a new friend today. Damifheknows was only making a point. We donât need you to rip him apart and analyze his comments. Iâll bet youâve made one or two typos or perhaps choosen the wrong word before. I know I have.
Damifiknow59 - Welcome to Dick Tracy. Most folks here prefer to rip the comic apart because they simply canât leave it alone long enough to enjoy it. If you can get over that theyâre really a pretty good lot, even Sydney. You should go back into your comment and edit it abit, that would really make Sydneys whole post look, well, comical.
YE GODS!
ok, story aside, DL in most cases, shows he is no amateur , his action scenes , smoke and fire rendering, shading and dark and colorful backgrounds are sometimes well- doneâŠthe second panel is kinda cool, a good scene shift to an observer from an elevated position..well doneâŠ.
BUT,why oh why doesnât he take the time to get the hands right?âŠthe next to last panel looks like DTâs hand is de-evolving! the fingers are starting to grow back together like flippers!
hmm..could be a new story line âŠDT slimes back into the ooze from which his ancestors sprung!..
oops! no offense to the creationists!
I have been reading Dick Tracy since the 1950âs and I have a personalized Dick Tracy drawing on
Chester Gouldâs personal Dick Tracy stationary with a note written to me by Chester Gould. Re: comments being made on Sunday, March 1, 2009. Folks - Chill out. This is a cartoon for entertainment purposes. It is a Sunday Comic and what do you do on Sunday, you relax. You donât get bent out of shape and analyze a comic strip. Dick Locher does Dick Tracy like Chester Gould did. You see it in the style of the drawings, how a story is played out and even thef way the criminals are named. I applaude Dick Locher and his talents. If the Dick Tracy comic causes you so much anxiety, then stop reading it.
Hey damifino59.
No hard feelings. If you are new a big welcome!
Itâs just that line about âitâs just a comic stripâ, itâs a favorite line Locher has schooled his desciples to use when âALL is lostâ, and there is no viable excuse for one of his big âgoofsâ. They use it all the time and for a moment there, I thought you were a cut from the same bolt of cloth!
Welcome again. Hope you posr often.
And Oh! Dypak, I make typos all the time. Itâs a way of paying for my many sins ;)
PS. I intend no disrespect, but wish DL would pay as much attention to meaningful âdetailâ and pacing in the strip as he does to concealing that unimportant family âmemorialâ every Sunday in the strip.
Didnât anyone notice Tracyâs vintage car? I would guess thatâs a 1936 Plymouth, or thereabouts. Iâm amazed the car could stay up in a high speed chase. It may be time to press the city council to get him a better car. No seat belts, thoughâŠ
If chet gould read some comments today regarding his and the present artists comic strip ability, the autographed note back. Some of his most weak efforts (Say Edward Nuremoh) would leave stuff like this gasping. Even that Nuremoh story MOVED, and did more in a month than most of the recent things do in 3. Any comparison is ludicrous whether in character or story line. Puh=leeze
Dypak, thank you for assuageing Sidneyâs comment to damifino. They made me a bit uncomfortable also. and sidnye, that sort of attitude is what greeted me here in my early days also as well as over at Pibgorn more recently when I innocently responded to what I thought was a simple opinion sampling, which in actuality turned out to be some sort of bizzare witch hunt. Maybe yâall could just keep that attitiude over in certain comics and weâall will read the warning signs before we come. I donât agree or even like some of the opinions expressed in gocomic ville, but dammitman, everyone has a right to them and everyone more importantly has a right to feel comfortable somewhere.
Sydney, youâre a class act. I hope you can tell from my tone of voice Iâm not being sarcastic or anything here. Thanks for taking the time to explain. Iâm pretty much a DT novice, no where in the league of all you pros (no pun intended). Sometimes itâs easy for us newbies to get intimidated. Cheers!
So, does this mean the story line is finished? What about the oil company? What about Ethan Noll and his illegal chemistry set? Will Diet Smith be on the hook for covering Nollâs tracks? Loose ends abound!
Panel one. Tracy suddenly remembers he has a wrist gizmo and uses it to call for back up. Which will never arrive. Again.
Okay, thatâs it for this continuity, I guess. Will we go to a new story or will loose ends, such as who is the terrorist, what will happen to Dr. Noll, his formula, the woman who got burned by the perfume, and any number of other unanswered questions and hanging plot threads be tied up?
If Mr. Gould were writing this, we would already have an inkling of the new storyline/villain using a little trick called fore shading. It seems obvious whatâs next is anyoneâs guess.

Iâm not seeing that one thing. Did it burn up in Angelgloriusâs car???
tommys about 16 years ago
Just spotted it. In the snowbank, panel 4. Apparently it wasnât wearing itâs seatbelt. Poor thing was ejected from the car.
riley05 about 16 years ago
Dang it, Grok. I was going to point out how Tracy had no way of knowing Angel-whateverâs ties to Big/Major/Super Oil, but you beat me to it!
Not to mention how the Crimestoppers Textbook obviously puts apprehending perps over saving lives.

Man, Tracy looks real freaky looking in panel #6, where he says the fireâs too hot for rescue, with only half his face showing, brrrrâŠ.

Grok is right, How did Tracy know about Big/Super/Major Oil?
Where in the heck is CIA man? Oh I know, he bought a refurbished TomTom from Circuit City and now heâs lost in the back country somewhere.
Akenta about 16 years ago
I thought the CIA man was in the car that got hit.
