Grokenstein, I don’t think he’s trying to pull any handles. Panel 1 he is testing the warmth and Panel 2 is pushing a button.

Ludwig, no, you push the button and bang the machine to get the payout. A strategy I might have to try the next time I’m in Vegas.

If that was me, I’d stop right there, but a gambler doesn’t know when 2 quit…

Some questions and comments. BO looks like he’s doing his money shuffle in the first panel. Where’s that thumb heading to and what’s Tracy staring at? What happened to Tracy’s nose? BO’s hand’s are not bad in the last panel. Is Dick going to discourage BO or join him after seeing him win? Sydney, don’t you own a hat like BO’s?

As I noted before, that in a 1995 interview, Locher said about B.O. Plenty :

“I think a lot of people remember him. We keep him around for humor and really dumb and dumber settings. For example, B.O. wins a lottery and forgets to pick up the money. Which is immedietly picked up by some gangsters and therein lies another story”

Is THAT the gist of the story he is about to tell us NOW ??

If so, what a genious to have held those brilliant “ideas” back for 14 long years and now so generously releases them.

Well “countoflour”, it looks like our man went out and did some “research” since drawing his “lever” for 3-07-09. B.O. now presses a button. Heck ! He even felt to find a “hot” machine!

Recalling Tracy’s “three lemon” change while on the telepone, alerted my curiousity about possible B.O. changes(?). Well, sure enough “Plan “C” was right there, implemented! But it was only a “TWO Lemon” change. A wave of Dick “Moonrock” Locher’s PEN and the color of the Waistcoat switched from white to black, and a thin whispy black tie became a fat striped one ! (See 3-08-09 and 3-09–09)

Perhaps, It’s this sort of exagerated (clumsy?), artistic dexterity that has misled a few simple deciples to think that the man’s art is “superb” and that he is a “genious”. It’s pathetic, a few “Tin Cup Joes” that will tap around with a Locher ‘White Cane’ long after he retires.

Want to “hear” Mumbles? Ask them to “articulate” WHY, DL is so great! Baseless adjectives? Mission impossible! :+D Beyond help!

We can all wait now, to see if on Sunday we get B.O’s 3rd lemon. Will his hair retain that NEW “brown” color (?)

bassmanbob, I can’t imagine what happened to Tracy’s nose, but his eyes seem to see his “three lemons” lecture “dancing” out the window to the tune of “ZING, CLANG, BA-BING ! WANG !”.

No! I don’t have a replica of the B.O. hat but do have one of Tracy’s fedoras from the Gould/DT Museum. I think B.O’s is an American version (?), of what the British called a “Pith Helmet”. Police Officers in the former British Colonies still wear them on ceremonial occasions.

I agree with “froxkrybra”, as you WIN “walk out” ! Not being rude here, but strange name there. Is that a female working at the Fox Channel ?

B.O.’s hat isn’t a pith helmet. Looks to me like a lamp fixture, which would explain a few things about B.O.

The hat is either a hubcap or a trashcan lid. I’m betting on the 2nd.

I discovered the comment page by accident when I clicked on “archive”. What I have found since reading the postings, is a group of people who just want to leave negative feedback. I see the same user ID’s coming up over and over again. With all your negative comments about Dick Locher and the Dick Tracy strip, I can’t help but wonder why you even read it each day as it apparently doesn’t meet up to your specifications for quality writing and drawings. Save yourself some grief each day and find another strip that is up to your standards. From now on, I won’t be reading the comment page anymore. I find the comments a waste of time.

“Chubsy”, you easily win Locher’s J. Hennessy Tucker Award for today, for seeing through the “picture” of futility as presented by one safeway674.

As B.O. pressed the slot machine you caught him similtaniously pressing hard, on the “pointless button”!

Dick Locher has had a very long relationship with the comic syndicate since the 50’s and I doubt they are willing to fire him. He is well beloved and probably the oldest continuing cartoonist. We’ve all noticed recently his short comings as an artist perhaps due to age but he has kept DT alive at least for another generation. I’m sure a new artist will appear eventually or else DT will finally end.
