@ubbm, I think this just shows that Scott makes this up as he goes along. Itâs a way to close up the âKevin Missingâ sequence and make a comment about the bin Laden capture. It appears this cartoon is produced with a 2-3 week lead time, though Chris Mathewsâ âinterviewâ of Winslow was eerily timely given the NY-26 special election.
Yeah; the previous guy believed in celebrating victories that werenât even victoriesâCOUGH-COUGH landing on aircraft carrier playing dress-up flyboy with a codpiece âMission Accomplishedâ COUGH-COUGH
Stantis seems easier to understand, if you view his cartooning like a parody of the alternative reality show he sees on FOX âNewsâ Channel.Thatâs got to be the only place youâd still hear a manufactured non-troversy like âThe President is spiking the ballâ.
@Stephen Gilberg, the expression is similar to ârubbing it in.â In college FB, for instance, it is considered âexcessive celebrationâ and subject to a penalty. In the pros itâs OK. Actually, Obama would have been justified in âspiking the ballâ after killing OBL, but he somehow managed to partially neutralize a major foreign policy victory because he couldnât get the story straight afterward about what really happened. Plus, even though he has kept rendition, âenhanced interrogation,â and Gitmo, he has struggled to distance himself from those decisions (to mollify the true believers to his left who think heâs âtoo moderateâ), which has further muddied his foreign policy positions.

Sometimes this comic is funny, sometimes itâs profound, and other times, like now, itâs just plain strange.

@Andy, Obama had his own âMission Accomplishedâ moment this week when he did his âvictory lapâ at GM and Fiat plants.

Obama doesnât want to âspike the ballâ because as a good elite leftist he thinks patriotism is gauche.

This is very funny to those who understand the context.

I know what it means to spike the ball in football, but Iâve never seen it as a figure of speech. What does it mean?
