    ..don’t we sort of owe France an apology? Weren’t we sort of wrong about the WMD’s?The whole Freedom Fries deal was sort of over the top…I know! To make it up to them we should call onion rings:Freedom Rings!…

    It’s probably a good thing we stayed out of the Napoleonic Wars, though (except when the Brits and Frenchies tried to fight them on our turf). Who’s to say which side we would have supported?

    How about French toast?

    Though actually, it was called German toast or morgen bröt until WW1 when, in the anti-German fervor of the day, it was changed to honor our valiant French allies.

    Ah, Normandy… nice double-edged gratitude there, Mona, as Normandy 1944 involved American troops – under British command… (Eisenhower only took over command from Field-Marshal Montgomery in October 1944)
