To Night-Gaunt49: In comic strips one must often go with stereotypes so as not to be too cryptic. I needed to make it clear this was an angel without having a tacky sign pointing to him saying “Angel”. A glowing head might not register as ‘angel’ to everyone.
Thanks for the link. I had never even heard of this film let alone seen it. Very elegant and touching. The entire movie is viewable on YouTube in four parts starting with: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DiGFcVf34PM
I remember watching The Red Balloon in elementary school. On a 16mm movie projector shown on a sheet hanging in the cafeteria. And we thought it was cool.
I liked C.S. Lewis’s take on the nimbus in Perelandra, where the light was something like an otherworldly light, since angels are made of stuff that moves with the speed of light (for us) and their light is even faster. Also, to stay at one spot on a planet, they must be moving and whirling rather quickly, and they are not quite vertical to us—or better, our vertical is seen as being slightly off of true when they are present.
I remember watching The Red Balloon in elementary school too, Dypak. It made quite an impression, and that’s why I chose red for this balloon. It’s a great memory, watching that film on a rickety old projector in the school library.

This time, though, I think it’s just a kiddo who keep hold to his balloon. So nice to know where lost balloons go…

Must have been hard for all those guys to sleep at night, what with their heads glowing and all. At least with a halo you can throw a blanket over it.
