The simple practicality is that they can’t let them go, nor can they drag them around as prisoners. If they are to complete their mission—and they must—then they have no choice but to “remove” them from the equation. Now, Flask’s attitude about it? That’s another story. You may have to do it, but taking glee from it is, to say the least, not helpful.
Linda’s suit might fit Flask, but I don’t think Wally can pass for Doug. “Aren’t you a little short for a Topsider?”
I’m sure Flask can find some reason for not having a partner when they get through security at the launch base, such as Wally and Holly being prisoners she captured, but not before they killed Doug. Assuming she used to be a Topsider, she’ll have knowledge that can get her past the guards.
Just how close is this future? Early on, Al and Gustine demonstrate a knowledge of old Tin Pan Alley songs, now Blackie quotes George Burns. Twentieth Century Pop Culture still lives in the minds of some of the survivors.
Futurama is set in the 31st century and they reference 20th and 21st century pop culture. Probably because anything after that hasn’t happened yet so we couldn’t relate.
Y’know, as Level_Head said, a person could almost feel pity for Doug, but for the fact that just a few days ago he was gleefully going to de-brain Wally and Holly. I’m afraid in the same situation I’d do just what Flask did, and with just as much reverence…
Sorry, kid. If you’re old enough to rip someone’s brains out of their head, you’re old enough to get blasted by a zero gun.==Geez, Flask is doing everything but purring. . . Methinks she’s enjoying this a little too much!
Two wrongs don’t make a right, but three do. Saw a cartoon located in ancient Greece that CONSTANTLY referenced the 20th century. It was a good cross time/space century. I think the 60’s made it that way.
Flask was obviously once a topsider so it doesn’t seem all that out of character. We’ve seen her casually wipe out underlings who she perceived as crossing her. She obviously hates topsiders and is seeking revenge against them so it makes sense that blasting them would be a source of fulfillment for her. Holly and Wally fight topsiders in defense of themselves. Flask is on the offensive.
The only way that they could see each others faces is to mutate the TS people, which will result in ‘Nightmare fuel" for them personally, and … anyway it will not happen soon nor happily. But I agree, if both sides consider the other uncaring unrelenting enemies, they can not reconcile. Wally is covering Doug. He could have knocked Flask’s gun aside. He did not, so either he was slow to think of it, or he partially agreed. I think it is a pity that Doug was not given the choice of joining the mutants as a mutant. That could still cause problems, but would be a step in the right direction. At least they did not turn the tables and use Doug as a harvested brain. The equipment is right there after all. Yeah, it seems likely that Flask has had someone do something to that gun.
Humm it’s interesting how he wanted Sympathy when it was his turn to die but was going to take great pleasure in torturing wally by making him watch as they removed holly’s brain, that kid was a sadist and got what he deserved. It was quick which was more than he deserved
I was wondering if Aaron would follow through on this as I considered how unique this strip is compared to almost everything else out there. Not only did he not wimp out, but Aaron took Flask’s character – along with the Topsiders’ – to levels of sadistic immorality usually reserved for more serious media. And I applaud this decision. I’ve been a fan of comic strips and comic books since I was a kid, and Enttown captivates me – as an adult – in a way unequal to any story I can think of. Thank you, Aaron.
Flask is evil, Flask’s attitude is wrong, she’s a horrible person. Give me a BREAK, Flask is what is needed in their world, a realist. I used to hear it all the time in the late sixties at college, “oh I could never shot anyone, even if they were trying to kill me”. The weak always depend on the strong to protect them and then condemn them for doing what has to be done. Question when was the last time you butchered a steer or killed a chicken? Never? That’s the trouble with modern society, it’s too removed from the deaths needed to survive.
Flask doesn’t exist in our reality so judging the character’s actions based on our understanding of the way things are/should be is pointless. Like her or not, if I were to wake up and find myself in Endtown’s reality, I’d sure want that lady on my side. Just as joe w. said so well above.
Geez, man. If she keeps pissing at every tree she comes across like this, if you get my point, she’ll be overdue for Wally “proving his record” in no time …
If Linda is unconscious, isn’t this the best time to expose her to the mutagenic virus? If she changed, she could no longer be a top-sider, and would be forced by necessity to help Flask, Holly, and Wally…she could then go back to Endtown with them. She doesn’t have to die.
Aaron, great drawing of a smirk on Flask’s face in panel # 2.
anything Flask dose to ties topsiders is justifiedif you recall they where going to kill Wally’s Friends in Hideous and Cruel ways and the where also going to kill Holly and Wally and use there severed Brains to power there Devices.think about Pete when you see Flask Kill this butchering kid.
This is tough, and not clear-cut. Yay for Aaron. :) I think we’re very soon going to find out a lot more about Flask, as promised. And it’ll likely end up opening far more questions.“Zero gun”? Zero what? And Doug said he was seventeen, but we’ll never know if he was. He might be. Get them young, and they’ll have far more callousness about their idealism.A lasting solution lies elsewhere, and Wally and Holly, together, might offer a hint.
Wally doesn’t learn much….don’t think he recalls what happened last time he talked other mutants into leaving a live topsider…the guy came after them with a vengence! and one of their own was lost. These two may or may not come after these guys themselves but i have no dout they would go get some more hardened topsiders to do the job for them….problem is, Flask really IS enjoying the killing too much as did these ‘kids’…..doesn’t anyone realize that the bodies may be mutated but the SOUL is still human? Doug obviously didn’t since he didnt consider Holly to be anything but a pathetic object rather than a person yet expected some desperate mercy being a teenager…….and how DOES Flask use that gun anyway???? THAT has to be interesting….bet she was a topsider before some freak accident made her a mutant and she was cast out…..OR she may have been involved with the initial technology used in developing these items not knowing in the future what they would be used for and knows how to override the technology……..so many possibilities!!!

A pointless death. This war will never end until they can see each other’s faces.

Well either that Zero gun was Flask’s before she mutated or there is another twist here.

Flask in Linda’s suit makes sense, but there is no “Doug’s suit” anymore. That topsider gun leaves nothing behind but dust.

Doug and Linda got off easy with instant death. They were going to make Wally watch them remove Holly’s brain. That’s evil.
