Talking about Sunday strips…. JWF, is there any particular reason for Sunday strips to be out of the usual timeline?

Unfortunately, it’s very difficult for Sundays and dailies to reconcile because newspaper deadlines require Sunday strips to be completed about four to six weeks ahead of dailies. For a while I tried to reconcile them but kept getting hit with very expensive late fees. Since I’m not making money on this strip as it is, I definitely couldn’t afford the extra fees. Sorry about the inconsistency and thanks for your flexibility.

JWF what a shame. Cartoon editors need to be paid for their work.

@Kab. The successful ones are paid fairly well like “Lio” and “Pearls” because they are in a lot of newspapers. “Lila” is only in a few papers and there’s no money in online publishing. I was hoping the departure of “Cathy” might open up a few slots, but I didn’t get any from that. Actually, most papers didn’t replace “Cathy” with another female-centered strip. It’s just the nature of the business. Thanks for the sentiment :-)

@JWFI’m surprised actually that the papers didn’t replace “Cathy” with “Cathy.” Seems a very common practice since there is a wealth of material.Anyway, I love this strip. It is one of my favorites. I love the continuity and how the characters evolve as the circumstance change. Keep up the good work!

@brightr1…thanks, and your icon is hysterical! Thanks, everyone, for your kind words and thanks, Newenglandah, for writing to your paper. That’s actually the only way strips can survive.

you said in your post… “Perhaps we—meaning those who read “Lila” on line—need to get the word out.”I have mentioned Lila to several friends in the LGBT community (AND provided them with a link!) As you said, many of them were unfamiliar with it.

Lila is perfect for a newspaper comic section. JWF treats it very upscale (for lack of another word). There is no vulgarity of any kind. I myself could not stand it if this strip ceased to be around. It is my favorite.

If Lila ever wants to find a man, she needs to stop watching “Housewives of New Jersey”.

Just wanted to point out, there’s another reason the Sundays and the Dailies very often don’t jibe. Historically, there have been a lot of people who ONLY get the Sunday paper (they want the coupons), and a lot of people who ONLY get the Daily paper (they read it at work). If you tried to maintain a single story line across both, you were guaranteed to confuse a large segment of your audience with missing installments.Of course, that’s not as important these days where more and more people get their news and entertainment online. But that was the big historical reason why Sunday strips (and even Saturday strips sometimes) are always in a Parallel Comic Universe from the Dailies.
