Let’s see. We spend umpteen gazillion dollars building SDI. It turns out to be 95% effective. That means the United States only gets hit with 500 nuclear warheads. Seems well worth the investment.
Depends on where in space. The radiation in the Van Allen belt is pretty good at sterilizing as well as ozone, ultra-violet rays and other environmental factors.
The US isn’t spending enough on weapons. It’s only spending more than Russia, China, Japan, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Saudi Arabia, India, Brazil, Australia, Turkey, Canada, Israel and a bunch of other countries TAKEN TOGETHER. That can’t possibly be enough.
Over twenty years ago a prominent economist told me the Reagan White House explicitly decided to collapse the Soviet economy with an arms race we could afford but they couldn’t. I didn’t believe it at the time, but I’ve learned enough since to realize it was true and it worked. It made no difference that we didn’t have the technology at the time since its purpose was not really to shoot down rockets but to scare the Soviets .
But today the technology is real. The old line about the impossibility of trying to hit a bullet with a bullet no longer applies, because, as I once heard an admiral put it, just tell him what part of the bullet you want them to hit.
BTW, according to that economist, the huge increase in federal debt under Reagan wasn’t because of defense spending but because he had to go along with every domestic spending proposal out of Congress to get them to agree with his defense budget.
Why does everybody think Kennedy was a good president, he almost started WWIII but got lucky when the soviets backed down in the Cuban missile crisis. Then he got shot. Reagan got the economy going after Carter ran it into the ground and put the USA back on top as a super power. Remember when the Iranian hostages were released? The day he was inaugurated.

I bet a lot of kids don’t know that Reagan used “Star Wars” as the reference for his strategic defense initiative.

Actually, Reagan got the Idea for the “Star Wars” defense initiative from a Battlestar Galactica episode…
I’m not kidding…

MAD was a more cost effective deterrent with the basically rational Soviet Union. But we’ll wish we had a better SDI when AMadJihad get going.
