My b-i-l’s brother did this to his wive’s adult child who snuck in his house threaten to shoot them saying he has a double barrel rifle he was not afraid to use if someone did not make noise coming in, other wise a robber is dead meat. This was decades ago, after that when step daughter came in late she made noise.
