I wonder if this is the one Sam has for Tracy to wear.

Good family sharing! But who will this new rabbi turn out to be? Someone involved in one of the story threads?

Nice! Something we haven’t seen before.

I love the way Mike is throwing in these little “life tid-bits” in the regular storylines. It’s something that Chester Gould use to do frequently. It’s these little personal moments that endear the characters to our hearts, and makes the strip feel more realistic.

And here I always thought Sam was Irish. Must be the green hat.

Hopefully, we’ll finally see Sam’s wife and daughter again after all these years… Toby Townley gets more screeen time than them!

For some reason, I visualize a Jack Kirby lookalike as Sam’s friend.

Where were we last year at this time? The Mordred Marathon that wouldn’t die?

One would think that D.T. would say something about second hand smoke.

Another interesting development. -DICK TRACY … the gift that just keeps on giving.

It’s time to celebrate HANUKKAH!

Not too long ago, Tracy’s yarmulke would have been a dunce cap.

Guess that explains why Sam always wears his hat even indoors. Had a friend whose grandfather did that. (The guy just made it to the U.S. w/ Nazis on his heels.)

Thanks for adding a reference to Judiasm in this strip. It’s about time we remember that there are Jewish cops, too.

A chance to see Marge and Julie again? I’ve been waiting for this ever since the new team took over.

All these years, and I didn’t know Sam is Jewish.

I think he just became one for our PC days.

I’m a day late (and no doubt a dollar short) but I wanted to say an astonished thank you to the Dick Tracy creators for the shout-out in yesterday’s strip to my character Derby Dugan. I’ve been reading the new team’s terrific strip on this site every day but missed seeing the one for Nov. 11th till this morning because I was tied up with work. Chester Gould’s Dick Tracy is why I fell in love with comics at the age of 7 and is probably the reason I eventually became a novelist. Thanks again, everybody—and thank you, Sam Catchem!

In the midst of all the concentration on the yarmulke, I would like to put my order in for the Staton-Curtis Autographed Model of Sam’s derby! :-)

We may have to do something about Sam’s smoking.

‘Catchem’ doesn’t sound very Jewish to me. Does that mean the guy who did Dennis the Menace was almost Jewish?But given Goulds’ predilection toward puns, I guess that is the best that could be done. I do like ‘Sam’ better than ‘Izzy’, but I would have used something more recognizably Jewish, like ‘Gunstein’.

Now I’ve got Tom Lehrer’s “Hanukkah in Santa Monica” running through my head. Hey, if you are the kind of person that gets music stuck in your head, Tom Lehrer is a good choice. That and Ren and Stimpy soundtrack music…

Oh, it’ll be a yellow yarmulke, all right… (evil grin)
