Coming Soon đ At the beginning of April, youâll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
I love the way Mike is throwing in these little âlife tid-bitsâ in the regular storylines. Itâs something that Chester Gould use to do frequently. Itâs these little personal moments that endear the characters to our hearts, and makes the strip feel more realistic.
Guess that explains why Sam always wears his hat even indoors. Had a friend whose grandfather did that. (The guy just made it to the U.S. w/ Nazis on his heels.)
Iâm a day late (and no doubt a dollar short) but I wanted to say an astonished thank you to the Dick Tracy creators for the shout-out in yesterdayâs strip to my character Derby Dugan. Iâve been reading the new teamâs terrific strip on this site every day but missed seeing the one for Nov. 11th till this morning because I was tied up with work. Chester Gouldâs Dick Tracy is why I fell in love with comics at the age of 7 and is probably the reason I eventually became a novelist. Thanks again, everybodyâand thank you, Sam Catchem!
âCatchemâ doesnât sound very Jewish to me. Does that mean the guy who did Dennis the Menace was almost Jewish? But given Gouldsâ predilection toward puns, I guess that is the best that could be done. I do like âSamâ better than âIzzyâ, but I would have used something more recognizably Jewish, like âGunsteinâ.
Now Iâve got Tom Lehrerâs âHanukkah in Santa Monicaâ running through my head. Hey, if you are the kind of person that gets music stuck in your head, Tom Lehrer is a good choice. That and Ren and Stimpy soundtrack musicâŚ

Hopefully, weâll finally see Samâs wife and daughter again after all these years⌠Toby Townley gets more screeen time than them!
For some reason, I visualize a Jack Kirby lookalike as Samâs friend.

One would think that D.T. would say something about second hand smoke.

Not too long ago, Tracyâs yarmulke would have been a dunce cap.

Thanks for adding a reference to Judiasm in this strip. Itâs about time we remember that there are Jewish cops, too.
My Uncle was a detective on the job in Philadelphia for many years

In the midst of all the concentration on the yarmulke, I would like to put my order in for the Staton-Curtis Autographed Model of Samâs derby! :-)
