I thought it was second-rate sci-fi as were all the space monster movies. I enjoyed watching The Day the Earth Stood Still

Not all sci-fi. There is some good stuff out there. I wouldn’t watch movies like The Blob any more than I’d watch B-Westerns.

I loved all the creature movies, when I was a kid.It didn’t matter what kind, I loved them all. From the Blob and Godzilla, Planet of the apes, mutant bugs of all kinds. If there was a freaky creature, it was my kind of movie.

The Original King Kong was classic, but you can chuck The Blob, The Thing, It etc.

When I was a kid and “The Thing” was playing, I hid behind the seat in front of me – I thought it was SO SCARY.

Cheezy plots, bad special effects, bad acting are all hallmarks of a saturday afternoon matinee. Loved it as a kid and I occassionaly will watch a syfy movie for the memories. The guy who came up with Mystery Science Theater 3000 shows the love of the B Movie.

The Blob is one of those happy occasions when the remake turned out better than the original.

Which BLOB? 1958, 1972, or 1988? Can someone tell me how the Blob could breathe? Slime is small for a reason. Euglenas, anyone?

Everybody seems to have forgotten that the primary purpose of all ScFii movies was to get your girl to get VERY close. That is when I became a big fan.

Even as a kid, I never liked the “monster” movie. After seeing a couple, I made it a point not to watch them. I didn’t like not being able to get to sleep or have nightmares.

Some of my favorites sci—fi’s, like The Day the Earth Stood Still, Fahrenheit 451, When Worlds Collide, Things To Come & The Andromeda Strain had no monsters at all. Then there were some classic exceptions like Forbidden Planet & War OF the Worlds, which were excellent stories.

The Blolb. Wasn’t that Michael Landon’s first movie. Also, I believe that “The Thinkg” was the first movie for James Arness.. Calvin and Hobbs are a great team. Wish there was more of him. Have teh entire collection.

For me as a kid I watched the Blob on TV and did not faze me. I also watched those BMoves on TV. My parent’s did not go to movies on the big screen. My dad took us all to a drive-in and still today I know not what we seen. Then the good part after the show a cartoon came on and dad decided to leave. I do not like Sci-Fic.Hobbes you had to ruin a good thing for Calvin’s play time, jumping in a pile of leaves with pilliows soft landing.

My memory as well. Worse part was having to walk 5 miles home after dark with my brother and a couple of neighbor kids from down the road. We kept up an exciting nervous whispered conversation all the way home. One scary movie for its time.

Dennis: James Arness first appeared in ‘The Farmer’s Daughter’ 1947 starring Loretta Young. Michael Landon starred in ‘I was A Teenage Werewolf’ 1957 The movie that scared me the most when I was a kid was ‘Invasion From Mars’.

It’s “mucus”. Mucous is the adjective referring to it. One of Watterson’s very rare spelling errors.

Even if you don’t live in Southern New England- Lyme country- ticks are even uglier than spiders. Calvin, try not to imagine those little tiny hooks on their heads grabbing into your skin!

In my opinion, both the Blob and Planet of the Apes were ruined by the remakes. (And ruined even more by the sequels) I notice that “Plan 9 from Outer Space” was never redone. When I happened to see it on TV I thought, This has to be one of the worst movies ever made! Later, I saw a list of the ten worst movies ever made – yup – plan 9 was on it.
